Ted's Trivia Night – Friday, February 8th 7 pm

We would like to challenge all KYC members (new and old, sailors and non-sailors) to participate in the Annual KYC Trivia Night now to be held on Friday, February 8th from 7:00 pm. Mark your calendars and get your crew all pumped up for an evening that always proves to be entertaining, fun, informative and often somewhat humiliating for all but the winning contestants! We are pleased to once again have the considerable skills, depth of knowledge and crowd controlling expertise of Past Commodore Ted Ison as our Quizmaster. Questions will be sailing related as well as of general interest – something for salty dogs and landlubbers alike! We encourage members to form teams (max 6 members/team) based on boat crew, family associations, or simply smart friends that you think will know the answers. There will be lots of opportunity to scramble together a team from those at the bar, please submit your team entry to manager@kingstonyachtclub.com no later than February 6th so we can make the appropriate arrangements. Remember…it is not what you know ...or who you know ...it is if you know someone that thinks they know all the answers and you can get them on your Trivia Team!

Riverhead Brewing Co.

Tropical IPA 6.1% ABV

This well-balanced IPA is layered with multiple hop additions to achieve the desired citrus and tropical fruit characteristics. Bursting with flavour, this beer is bright, juicy and guaranteed to put a smile on your face!

Tasting Notes

Dressed in a hazy orange golden hue, this unfiltered IPA is packed full of flavour and aroma with hints of graperuit, mango, pineapple and tangerine. A well-balanced bitterness makes this beer enjoyable for both Pale Ale and IPA drinkers.

Riverhead Brewing Co.

Riverhead Brewing Co. was founded in Kingston, Ontario, and opened its doors to the public in June 2017. The Brewery is located at 631 Fortune Crescent, Unit 10, next to the Invista Centre on Gardiners Rd. All beer is brewed on our 20HL Brewhouse and packaged on-site. Riverhead fulfills the needs and wants of customers in our Taproom, Commerical Accounts and LCBO/Beer Stores in Kingston and surrounding areas. Since opening in 2017, we have doubled our size by expanding into the unit beside us to meet the growing demand for our beer, and offer more food and experience options to our customers visting the brewery. | FeBREWary - Week 1: The Astromancer

The Astromancer

Sage Gruit 5.7% ABV

Beau’s celebrates International Gruit Day on Feb. 1, 2019 with the release of The Astromancer, a sage gruit. We used a combination of organic whole leaf and rubbed sage in brewing The Astromancer to draw out both herbal character and essential sage flavours. Rye malts add a peppery spice that complements the herbal component of this ancient ale.

History & Style

EIn gruit ales, herbs, spices and other botanicals replace a dominant hop character, throwing open the door to experimentation. Sage takes its place alongside yarrow and bog myrtle in the ancient history of spicing and helping to naturally preserve European gruit ales.

Tasting Notes

The Astromancer pours mahogany with a tan foam. The aroma bursts with herbal sage. The flavour features sweet caramel malt with peppery spice notes and minty sage. The finish is spicy and dry.

The KYC Sailing Committee recently met and are hard at working planning for the coming (water-based) sailing season. Keelboat and regatta event dates have been finalised. We have coordinated with Collins Bay Yacht Club and CORK to minimise overlaps. No major changes are planned for our keelboat racing Sailing Instructions this year. The splitting of PHRF racers into 2 equally sized fleets (based on expected active weeknight racers) is nearing completion.

Welcome to February, we are now halfway through the sailing hiatus and the days are getting longer.

Feb 20th 5pm is the next monthly Cruisers' Muster, come out and get warmed up talking about cruising.

We have had a few applications/nominations for the Cruiser Awards. Please don't forget to send in your request to us. There are 5 new awards this year. You can see all the Awards at the Cruisers Page https://kingstonyachtclub.com/cruising-awards

The newly approved Jemmett's Committee had its inaugural meeting this week. The Committee is charged with recommending maintenance levels and improvements for the property. This is a strong step forward by the Club for Cruisers and other members who use the property.

| Iceboat Sailing

The Kingston ice boaters sailed on Lake Col. By for almost 6 weeks now. It has been an excellent season so far. We have had two days with 14 Boats on the ice. The recent snow has closed it to ice boating but snow kite sailing season is now open. The harbour recently froze and ice boating resumed there for a week. Then it snowed! Now kite sailing can take off!
