Altbier
German-Style Amber Ale 4.7% ABV
Altbier is an amber-hued, finely balanced lagered ale, something of a cousin to Beau’s flagship beer, Lug Tread. While both beers are German-style lagered ales, Altbier offers up high-intensity, balanced maltiness and more hop presence. It has subtle fruity ale notes, and a crisp lager finish.
History and Style
Alt is a German style of ale that originates from the northern part of the Rhineland. Caramunich malts give Altbier its colour and a subtle caramel sweetness. This beer recipe is a true Beau’s classic — in fact, Brewmaster Matthew O’Hara had been tinkering with it even before Beau’s opened its doors. It was first released in 2008 as “Festivale,” a signature release for Ottawa’s Jazz Festival. It has popped up several times in the Beau’s repertoire over the past decade, garnering awards in 2009 and 2012. The flags in the artwork are a subtle tribute to the story of this beer.
Tasting Notes
Altbier pours bright deep copper with a thick white foam. Malt dominates the aroma giving impressions of dark bread crust with undertones of grassy hops. The flavour feature assertive hop bitterness in harmony with a grainy malt backbone. The finish is crisp and dry.

Junior Sailing
| Fraser Smith - Sailing Manager
I am an experienced sailing coach, and have been involved with the sport for 12 years, having served as a high-performance dinghy coach for the past 5. Having moved from Victoria BC this past summer, I have taken up the position of Sailing Manager at KYC while also holding the position of Head Coach of the Royal Military College Sailing Team. Within the next few years I hope to be developing more high-performance sailors, with the eventual goal of coaching for the Canadian Olympic team!

| 2019 DN Canadian Championships Kingston
This past Sunday the 2019 DN Canadian Championships were held out on the Kingston Harbour front with boats coming from as far away as Halifax, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Michigan, Montreal, Hamilton, Ottawa and Kingston.
23 DN Ice Boats in all lined up for the 6 races that were smoothly run by our own Peter Kraszewski who got many comments from the skippers for getting the races off with out any delays. Peter also had help from eight score keepers who did an awesome job keeping track of the boats doing the three lap races. Thanks to all on behave of the fleet. We really appreciate the hard work standing on the ice collecting all the boat numbers as they cross the line.
The ice conditions were perfect for the regatta with boats hitting speeds in excess of 45 knots which made for some exciting sailing. Masts were popped out beyond their capabilities for three of the boats who unfortunately experienced their mast break. And when you asked each of them all about the mast break, they all said that the were going the fastest all day when it happened. Congratulations to James Thieler from RI, for winning the Canadian Title along with Guy Lovejoy from N.Y., in second and Peter Van Rossem Third. We also had John Curtis with a respectable seventh place along with Jim Foster, ROBIN Wynn-Edwards and Colin Duncan representing KYC as well. Results can be found in the regatta section of the KYC Web Site or click

One last mention from the fleet… we always are reminded of how much fun it is for the competitors to sail from KYC. Most often, DN Ice Boats race in places nowhere near any facility. The fleet thanks KYC for hosting and they all look forward to coming back. Thanks KYC!
