Knotmeter - August 23, 2019

Last day of J.S. Camp is today! We hope everyone had a great summer and look forward to seeing you next year!

Special Announcements

| Royal Canadian Military Institute

Great News! We now have a reciprocal Agreement with RCMI. This is a great city Club located at 426 University Ave, T.O. It is a fabulous place to visit, eat and stay at, or even tour! (Their library is amazing). If you are in the area, please call ahead for a reservation and bring your membership card when attending. If you have any additional questions, please give us a ring.

Great addition to KYC Member Benifits!!

| AR Balances

Our Finance Chair Teresa Gibson has asked for a friendly reminder to go out to our members with respect to KYC account balances. We would like to remind everyone a 2% interest fee is applied to all account balances over 30 days. If you receive statements by email, you should have received your July statement on August 7 th (due Aug 26 th ). If you did not receive this email, please contact the main office to ensure your information is current with the Club. We would also like to remind members if your card has expired or you would like to change what we have on file please let us know.

With everyone working together, it creates less time (and energy) for management with respect to tracking down expired credit cards, wrong emails, changes of address etc. Current and updated information, enables our A/R process easier to manage, resulting in more working capital to get us through the winter and hopefully rely less on our line of credit.

We appreciate your help and support with this and if you have any questions, please contact us.

Wag the Wolf

White I.P.A. 5% ABV

Wag the Wolf is a hazy white I.P.A. that packs bright and citrusy organic hops into every sip. Brewed with a substantial ratio of organic wheat to barley malts, its aromas of lemon and grapefruit lead into a finish that is lively and refreshingly hoppy.

History and Style

The white I.P.A. is a modern mash-up of two beer styles, a classic wheat ale and a bold American I.P.A. To brew Wag the Wolf we use organic Motueka and Rakau hops, and a late-addition hop technique to draw extra aroma from them. The Wag the Wolf artwork features a striking graphic wolf with heterochromatic eyes.

Tasting Notes

Wag the Wolf pours a hazy yellow with dense white foam. There is a burst of citrus with lemon and grapefruit on the nose along with banana notes. The flavour is similarly fruity; with an additional hints of papaya, peach and mild peppery notes. The bitterness is firm but not overwhelming. It has lively carbonation and a medium body. The finish is bright and balanced.

| Report on 9er Canadian Championships

A mixture of champagne sailing, thunderstorms and light winds greeted the 24 competitors who came from right across Canada to complete in the National Championships for the 29er, 49er and 49erFX classes.

Kingston Harbour offered its best summer breezes (sometimes testing) and allowed the Race Officer to deliver nine good races each for the 49er and 49er FX classes, and six races for the 29er classes which produced proper Championship results.

Canadian Champions for 2019 are:
29er Class:
1st overall and winner of the Jeff Boyd belt, and Top Youth Sailors: Thomas Staples and William Staples (RStLYC)
2nd overall and Top female trophy – Morgan Kitson & Adrianna Baird (RStLYC)
3rd – Georgia & William Phillips (RCYC)

49er FX Class:
1st – Georgia & Antonia Lewin-LaFrance (RNSYS)
2nd- Jack Gogan & Madelaine Gillis (RNSYS)
3rd Rebecca & Albert Heller (RVYC)

49er FX Class:
1st – Will & Sam Bonin (RCYC)
2nd – Ryan Wood & Andrew Wood (RVYC)
3rd – Airie Moffat & Walker Moffat (KYC)

Huge thanks to volunteers who gave their time to deliver this regatta in such a professional and fun way, and to Manager Greg and, his staff and the kitchen staff for helping to make this event happen so smoothly at the busiest time in the KYC summer.

The Wolfe Island Race is this Saturday Aug 24. Skippers meeting is at 0930 and first signal at 1030. Overall race length is 40 nm but there are 2 intermediate potential finishing points in case of light winds. Forecast is sunny, warm and 10-15 kts of wind. It should be a great race!

If you get a chance, please thank Ben Tripp for doing such a great job managing our races, doing the scoring & announcing results! Ben will be leaving us at the end of Aug to return to university.

We've recently handled a couple of protests (thanks, Ross, Robert and Lana for serving on the Protest Committee). It's important that we all race by the rules, including proper hailing (not dialog/discussion), notifying other boats of your intent to protest, flying a protest flag within reasonable time and filing a Protest Form before the deadline. If we all understand and apply the rules consistently it only makes our racing better & more enjoyable.

REMINDER: we will not be racing the 1st week of September due to the Blind Sailing Worlds regatta. We will be racing 1st week of Oct instead.
