Special Announcements
| AGM
Yesterday evening’s AGM went well.
Thanks to ALL who attended.
Firstly, on behalf of the Board thank you for re-electing and electing a full slate.
Thank you for your confidence. It’s going to be a busy year. We will have four new dynamic Board members, all who are itching to get at it. The members approved the new "rate card” and the emergency repair levy.
Soon, (we are working on scheduling things) there will rock, lots of it, and equipment gracing our shores and installing the much needed shoreline reinforcements.
Stay tuned.
Lots of upcoming activities coming up at KYC.
See you at the Club!
Cheers, Peter Cohrs
Commodore| Lake Ontario WAter Levels
Representatives from KYC have recently attended presentations and rallies put on by United Shoreline: Ontario and United Shoreline: USA in both Alexandria Bay and Trenton. This is a brief article is intended to provide information and to encourage all members of KYC to educate themselves on an issue that is extremely important for the management of our infrastructure and for the future of our club.
From their website www.unitedshorelineontario.ca:
“United Shoreline: Ontario is a grassroots community-based organization with the mandate of uniting the residents and municipalities of the north shore of Lake Ontario in one voice.
United Shoreline Ontario’s objective is to engage governments and private home owners towards the protection of lakeshore homes, families, businesses, emergency responders and municipalities from violent or wide-spread lake surge flooding. This flooding is predicted with the implementation of Plan 2014 and the implications of climate change. We are partners with United Shoreline USA, who share a similar mandate of prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery in the face of Plan 2014 and lake surge flooding on the south shore of Lake Ontario.”
Without trying to repeat the 7 great learning videos that are available on the website, suffice it to say there are many factors affecting the high-water, loss of business and erosion that riparians (those who live, work and play along the water) have experienced in 2017 & 2019. It seems that the only key factor that can be manipulated is the outflow rate at the Moses-Saunders Dam on the St. Lawrence River at Cornwall. It appears from the very clear presentation we viewed at both presentations that the International Joint Commission is not taking the appropriate action to minimize the impact of a potential additional 300 mm (12”) lake level above that which we experienced last spring and summer.
UPDATE: Nov. 25, 2019: There was an article in the KWS on Saturday and a CBC news clip on Sunday that reported on the Nov. 23 protest rally at the IJC offices in Ottawa and noted that the IJC has directed the outflow be increased. (no indication of by how much).
To find out more, please take the opportunity to view the United Shoreline: Ontario website. Our decision making at KYC depends on an interested and educated membership.
R. J. Crothers,
Vice Commodore

Good Time IPA
Session IPA 4% ABV
Good Time Session I.P.A. delivers fruity hop aromas and full flavour in an easy-to-enjoy light ale. Brewed with organic nelson sauvin and centennial hops, the recipe adds wheat and oats to barley malts for a satisfying and uncompromising craft beer experience.
History and Style
A session I.P.A. is a lower-alcohol expression of an India Pale Ale that highlights approachable hop aroma and flavour, without intense bitterness. The hop-derived citrus and tropical fruit notes lead into a fuller mouthfeel than might otherwise be expected from a light ale.
Tasting Notes
Good Time Session IPA pours gold with white foam. The aroma offers a combination of citrus, gooseberry, pineapple flavours and aromas. The flavour is juicy with subtle hop bitterness. The body is light and refreshing. The finish is clean and lingeringly hoppy.

| Red Jacket Marketing Survey
As many of you may already know, the iconic Canadian racing yacht, Red Jacket, was bequeathed to Marine Museum of the Great Lakes by the late Peter Milligan. We are hoping to keep sailing her by charting her with captain and crew to groups who would be interested in seeing that it was like to sail. To determine interest, we have developed a Survey Monkey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/8F7S3B6. We would really appreciate it if clicked on the link you took the 30 seconds it takes to answer the three simple questions. Please consider completing the survey even if you would not be interested at all. That would be important information for us to have.
Thanks for your help.| Sailing
