Given that the proposed dates of April 25, 26, 2020, with potentially chilly weather (leading up to and including launch day) makes it difficult to get wax and bottom paint on etc etc…
The next best dates for Napanee Crane are May 8 and 11 (Friday and Monday resp’y) (Sunday is available but Mother’s Day Brunch is a popular event…)
Sailing committee has agreed to the idea of a late lauch as it won’t materially affect he racing schedule.
My calculations suggest that we can probably launch ALL the boats and T docks, and raise all 16 "big” masts in one day.
It’ll be tight, but we just GO til it’s done.
Would like to nail his down asap.

As many of you may already know, the iconic Canadian racing yacht, Red Jacket, was bequeathed to Marine Museum of the Great Lakes by the late Peter Milligan. We are hoping to keep sailing her by charting her with captain and crew to groups who would be interested in seeing that it was like to sail. The Sailing Committee met on Wednesday to continue their debriefing of last year and working on next year's programs. Event dates will be finalised by mid-January, online Sailors Handbook available mid-February and printed booklets by end of March.
Peter Van Rossem, Tom Wilson (Board rep) and Craig Leroux (Community Club) have joined the Committee.
The idea of having several weekend races in October is being discussed. It would be less formal than our regular racing but would get us out on the water several times during a month when many of our racing boats otherwise often sit idle. It's been suggested that Sunday morning races followed by lunch would be a good format. The SIs are being worked out. Please share your thoughts on this idea with your fleet captains.
We are looking for a (paid or volunteer) Race Management Coordinator for next year. Perhaps you or someone you know (e.g. retired racer, former LTS instructor working/studying in Kingston) would like to help run our evening & weekend regular races. The time requirement is approximately a few hours two evenings a week and a couple of hours starting eight Saturday racing events through the sailing season.
There is an ongoing problem finding new crew for racing. Several options are being discussed. We are looking for ways of attracting new members to KYC so they can try out sailing/racing (to see if they like it) and experience our club before having to commit.
After a very busy and successful (operationally & financially) year hosting regattas the plan is for a lighter load this coming year, probably including regattas for Sharks, 9ers, Albacores, IOM and coastal rowing (yes!). Last year, the Blind Worlds brought great recognition to KYC due to large volunteer contributions by many members. We continue to work on improving our processes for hosting regattas at KYC.
