| TIM IRWIN inducted into Kingston Sports Hall of Fame
Another KYC sailor hes been elected to the Kingston and District Sports Hall of Fame.
It’s two day old news by now, but I am delighted to inform members that our long time and Life Member Tim Irwin has been elected to the KDSHF.
Tim has had a long and illustrious “career” as a sailor and eminent builder of sailing.
Tim sailed a Dragon (lovely boats!) to a fourth place finish at the 1968 Mexico Olympics, and since that time has been heavily involved in CORK, and helping to bring sailing events to Kingston.
Tim’s legacy to sailing in Kingston is deep and extensive.
A true builder of the art and sport of sailing.
Congratulations and thank you, Tim!
Tim joins others from KYC who have been inducted, they being: Ross Cameron, Harry Jemmett, Bud Gormley, Leroy Grant and Bart Dalton.
May I also add that KYC has an outstanding legacy of sailors and builders of sailing, and suggest that they too be nominated to the KDSHF.
It’s only fitting.
| News from the KYC Corinthian Fund
Happy New Year from the Corinthian Fund Committee and Sailing Athletes! Thank you to everyone and their families who donated in 2019 to the Fund. We were able to support six Kingston-based sailors last year, and that is because of the continued support from contributing KYC members. Without the continued support from the Club community, it becomes more difficult for sailors to attend the necessary regattas to reach their goals, and move forward in the sport of sailing.
A new year brings new regattas, fresh wind, chances to improve, and 365 days to Pay it Forward. We are happy to have the time to reflect on the hard work and share the results of the young sailors we supported last year through our first Corinthian Fund Spotlight feature in the Log.

James Fair - 2019 Season Highlights
Ontario Sailing Development Team Through training with the Ontario Sailing Development team, I was a part of many clinics and training camps taught by high performance coaches, training both on and off the water. This external support was extremely beneficial to bring together strong and progressing sailors from around the province so that everyone can advance in the sport. It was also important for my development to get used to basic techniques specific to the Laser as it was my first year in the boat.
? Icebreaker – Toronto Sailing and Canoe Club
Result: 2nd Overall in Laser 4.7
? Sail Central/Fruit Bowl
Result: 1st Overall in Laser 4.7
This year was my fourth time competing at Fruit Bowl in Hudson, Quebec. My first year competing I placed second overall and first in my fleet and had not made progress in my results since. This year, I competed in the Laser 4.7 class and won the pineapple, which is the traditional prize for the competitor that finishes first overall!
? CORK/Canadian Youth Championships
Result: 15th Overall in Laser 4.7
Result: 6th Canadian
? Laser 4.7 Worlds
Result: 36th Overall in Silver Fleet in Laser 4.7
Result: 12th Canadian
? Shark Canadians Result: 2nd Overall
? Shark North Americans
Result: 1st Overall
? Shark Worlds - Röbel, Germany
Result: 2nd Overall
Result: 1st For the Metzger Trophy
Throughout the season, I competed in weekly club racing as well as the major events myself and my team attended. In addition to our amazing top finishes, we won Shark of the Year overall, finished first for the season at Kingston Yacht Club, and received the KYC Achievement and Leadership Award. Shark sailing allowed me to gain a lot of skills that transfer over to my focused development in the Laser. I am hoping to continue sailing Sharks in the coming year.
Corinthian Fund Support Without the support of the Corinthian Fund and others who helped to raise funds for my competitions abroad, I would not have been able to have such a strong, influential year, packed with new experiences and progress. I cannot thank the members of the Corinthian Fund Committee and supporting Kingston Yacht Club Community for the continued support.
Thank you for Paying it Forward.
