| Brandon Chapman - F&B Manager
As KYC continues to evolve, changes become important for the growth and success of the Club. With that I am happy to announce the succession planning for Brandon Chapman. As you all know Brandon has been with the Club for the past 3 seasons (most recently as Bar Manager). He has done a fantastic job learning the ropes to take on the next challenge for the Club. Brandon’s new title will be FOOD & BEVERAGE MANGER and is well deserved. He will now oversee all areas related to Food and Beverage at the Club (weddings, private catered events, member bookings and events as well as our daily dining). Please extend to Brandon a well deserved “pat on the back” for this achievement, and please do not hesitate to contact Brandon for any and all related food, dining and event questions. | KYC / Queen's Partnership update
We would like to officially announce our new partnership of Queens University and KYC with respect to the Club having access to Queens University Athletic and Recreation Facilities.
Queens has agreed to provide ARC membership access for all Full KYC members (Family and Single Memberships) and will be eligible to purchase add-on services like towel, laundry rolls, locker, etc. on your own. In addition, Queens will establish 1 (one) “KYC Night” for ALL KYC Members per ticketed Gaels sport. This will include:
1 football, 1 basketball, 1 volleyball, 1 hockey game annually where KYC members receive free tickets to the game, will be recognized at the game, and have the opportunity to setup a promotional booth to market KYC memberships to people in attendance.
ARC Membership for KYC Members will begin this year on April 1st, 2020 and end February 28th, 2021. With successful renewal of your KYC Membership each successive year (March 1st – due by end of month), you can continue to have access to the ARC and their programming. This relationship will have a 3year lifespan with the option to renew after that timeframe has expired if both parties recognize the success of the relationship.
How it works…We will announce (inform) you when membership cards have arrived. They will be available at the Bar for pick up. All Full Members will have a Queens “emblem” on your membership card. Please show your card at the ARC and they will give you an ARC access card for future use. The initial time you visit, they will need about 10min of your time to supply them with information they need.
This is another fantastic reason to by a KYC member!

As in prior years, we will be charging 2020 membership fees to member accounts on January 31st. The membership fees are not due to be paid until February 28th, at which time the credit cards on file will be automatically charged.
Please let the office know if you would like any changes made to your membership category before February 28th. In addition, please review the information we have on file through www.kingstonyachtclub.com/memberdesktop and you can make changed to your contact information online, which will reflect our records in the office. If any changes are required for membership categories, please email controller@kingstonyachtclub.com. Kindly email all requests, even if discussed with Greg or another member of the office staff, as written requests are required to authorize membership changes.

Our General Manager Greg McNab will soon depart Kingston Yacht Club for a new opportunity in Toronto.
Please join us at the Club for an informal "TGIF" gathering with Greg next Friday January 31st at 5:30 PM.

Upcoming Club Judge Seminar
What actually happens in the protest room? If I get involved in a protest, how can I present my side better? Why do we need judges at regattas anyway? What does a sailing judge actually do? How do I become a certified Sail Canada judge?
If you have any of these questions or have already decided you want to become a certified Club Judge, register for the full day Club Judge seminar at Nepean Sailing Club in Ottawa on February 8. The course will be taught by Greg Dargavel who is a National Judge and sails out of NSC but sailed out of Kingston in the past.

Chris and Linda (Ramble On) and Bob (Finnish Line 2.0) are giving a talk of their 2,950 nm voyage to the east coast this past summer at a club in Ottawa in February. After the off Broadway try out they will be presenting the same talk at our Club on Wednesday March 18th at 7pm. This is also a Cruiser Muster night.

History and Style
A session I.P.A. is a lower-alcohol expression of an India Pale Ale that highlights approachable hop aroma and flavour, without intense bitterness. The hop-derived citrus and tropical fruit notes lead into a fuller mouthfeel than might otherwise be expected from a light ale.
Tasting Notes
Good Time Session IPA pours gold with white foam. The aroma offers a combination of citrus, gooseberry, pineapple flavours and aromas. The flavour is juicy with subtle hop bitterness. The body is light and refreshing. The finish is clean and lingeringly hoppy.

| Club Judge Seminar Registration Now Open
Registration for the upcoming Saturday, February 8 Club Judge seminar at Nepean Sailing Club in Ottawa is now open. To register, please go to: https://ontariosailing.ca/registration-forms/. Topics focus on the things club judges need to know in their role in club racing events and local/regional regattas.
| Corinthian Fund Spotlight
Our next Corinthian Fund Spotlight features Ali ten Hove. Ali and her crew Mariah qualified Canada’s spot in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics this past December at the World Championships in New Zealand, and are about to start competing to make sure it is their boat going to Tokyo. All of the KYC community will be watching closely cheering Ali land Mariah on!

Olympic Pursuit
Focused on our Olympic goal, my crew Mariah Millen and myself continued to push the pace during the 2019 season! I had the honour of representing both Canada and Kingston on the international stage as we competed at many world class regattas.
49er FX
- European Championships, Weymouth, United Kingdom Result: 15th place (11th country overall)
- Pan American Games, Lima, Peru Result: 4th place
- Olympic Test Event, Enoshima, Japan Result: 18th overall
- 2019 World championships, Auckland, New Zealand Result: 36th overall
Our highlight of the season was setting a new Canadian record – finishing 15th place at the 2019 European Championships. Another unforgettable highlight was competing for Team Canada at the Pan American Games in Peru, as well as the Olympic Test Event in Japan.
Although we underperformed at the 2019 World Championships, we are still happy to report that Canada has qualified a country birth in the 49er FX for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo next summer! Now that Canada has secured a spot, the Canadian trials will begin to decide which team the country will send. The Canadian trials will be scored from the combined results of the 2020 World Championships in Australia (February 9 to 15), and the Princess Sophia Regatta in Spain (March 28 – April 4). We have a very exciting couple months ahead – you can follow along on our social media pages!

The Importance of Giving Back
We strongly believe in the theme of ‘pay-it-forward’ and do our best to give back to our communities every chance we can. Our recent efforts have been focused on running initiatives to promote and encourage young women pursuing Olympic sailing. It is our hope to foster a positive environment and network of women within the Canadian sailing scene, educate women on the opportunities Olympic sailing has to offer, and create visible strong female role models that young women can look up to.
The value of Olympic sailing is in the pursuit of excellence - and this can be seen not only in sport, but in many different aspects of life. Striving for excellence is what drives our society and community forward. It is so important to teach young women to embrace this culture as well as to champion others to do so as well.
Corinthian Fund Support
The driving force behind our campaign is the amazing community of people that are cheering us along every step of the way! I feel so lucky to come from such an incredible community like Kingston – the unconditional support and encouragement is what keeps me pushing towards each new goal. The Corinthian Fund has been such a vital support throughout my sailing career. KYC has truly been there supporting me every step of the way - providing support and cheering me on back when I was racing 420’s on the Ontario circuit in 2010, all the way to my current Olympic campaign where I train and compete full time across the globe.
I would like to extend the most sincere thank you to the members of the Corinthian Fund Committee and the Kingston Yacht Club Community for the continued support. You have made such a significant impact in my life and my sailing career. I take a lot of pride in representing my country, community, and all those who support us along the way! I will keep working hard in 2020 to make you all proud and continue to pay it forward every chance I can.
