Haul Out Plan
Still plenty of sailing and Frostbite racing left but it’s time to think about haul out. Cradles will be delivered starting October 26th with the crane arriving on Saturday October 31st. The gas dock will be open on the Friday and Saturday beforehand for fueling and pump outs one last time. The mooring plan can be found on the webpage events calendar.

Dinghy Removal
To make room for cradles, please remove your dinghy by Monday, October 19th.

AGM - Zoom Zoom!
The KYC 125th Annual General Meeting is now on the horizon. Scheduled for Thursday November 26th, this year’s gathering is going virtual! Due to the pandemic, the AGM will be run using the Zoom Webinar platform. Much more to come on the logistics but all members will have the opportunity to participate in the AGM from virtually anywhere on just about any device.

Thanksgiving Day - Clubhouse Closure
The Clubhouse will be closed on Monday, October 12th, 2020.

Skeleton Park: Autumn Fyre

It's late August, and while most Canadians are busy squeezing the most from our waning summer season, our brewmaster is hard at work crafting our next seasonal release for the cooler months ahead.

Many of our fans have fond memories of this Grätzer-style ale, and we've had many requests to bring this brew back. So, by popular demand, we're pleased to announce that our Autumn Fyre will be returning in mid-September 2020.
Once popular in Upper Canada, Grätzer-style ales like this vanished after prohibition.
Oak-smoked wheat gives our Autumn Fyre its distinct fall flavour.

Grätzer-style ales date back to the 15th century, when the Prussian Empire controlled parts of Europe. A version of the style became popular in Upper Canada when small breweries began roasting their malt over oak fires.Prohibition put an end to craft beer production in Ontario, and Grätzer vanished, never to be brewed again in these parts... until we resuscitated the recipe for the enjoyment of modern beer lovers. Rejoice!

Sailing

| Sailing Update

Where did the sailing season go? Under challenging circumstances, we've successfully completed a month of informal racing type events, 2 monthly evening racing series and 3 weekend events. The participation level has been fantastic, considered some boats weren't launched this year, and included some new participants from our cruising fleet. Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen!

The online Virtual Trophy Room has been updated with winners of keelboat racing, cruising and special awards for the 2016-2019 period. Thanks to Bob Story and Matt White for helping make this happen. Going forward, the information will be updated at the end of each season.

We will be wrapping up the season with the last 2 Sunday morning Frostbite races, on Oct 18 and 25, COVID-constraints permitting.

| FORK Regatta

This past weekend, KYC hosted the annual FORK regatta for Hydrofoiling Kiteboards. The event took place at Lake Ontario Park, and with the guidance of KFL&A public health and the help of our volunteers, the event was conducted in a safe and responsible manner. Despite some light winds and unfavorable conditions on Friday and Saturday, everyone was patient and keen to get racing on Sunday. On Sunday, the final day of the event, we saw better winds which allowed for 6 quality races.

The competition was tight, as was demonstrated by the tiebreaker for 1stplace. This year, we were excited to have increased involvement and support from KYC in organizing and executing the event. FORK and KYC’s relationship and shared interest in Hydrofoiling will continue to grow. Moving forward, we hope to add more foiling classes and move FORK to be the North American Championships. The regatta organizers would like to express a huge thank you to all of our volunteers.
