PLEASE start your engines ashore and empty it of any antifreeze. We do not want "KYC" antifreeze polluting our waters

| April 30: Spring Food & Beverage Fair & Cocktail Party
Kick off the sailing season in style with KYC! There will be complimentary wine and beer samples from KYC’s various suppliers. Chef Neil’s kitchen team will be presenting an array of delicious old favourites and new creations. This is not just a great party but a chance for you to tell us the kinds of foods and drinks you want us to carry for the upcoming summer season. Mothers’ Day will soon be upon us again and Chef Neil is offering up another sumptuous brunch buffet to help celebrate. Treat Mom to a delicious brunch at KYC, featuring a carving station, omelette station, fresh pastries, bread and many other brunch favourites! | May 8th Gordon & MacPhail Scotch Tasting Dinner
Thanks to the Kingston Single Malt Society and KYC member Conrad Falkson, KYC is pleased to announce a unique opportunity for all of our scotch loving members. Gordon & MacPhail is one of Scotland’s best regarded whiskey bottlers and two of their executives will be coming to Kingston to introduce our members to their whiskeys. This event will feature Richard Urquhart, Gordon & MacPhail Export Executive, and Ian Ewan MacKintosh, Gordon & MacPhail Chief Operating Officer leading the tastings!
Chef Neill will be preparing a Four Course Dinner, accompanied with five amazing Benromach Single Malt Scotch Whiskies. Only one of these whiskeys is available in Ontario and they are:
Highland Moules: Mussels steamed with apples, mushrooms, double smoked bacon, scotch and cream
Pairing: BENROMACH PEAT SMOKE 05
Smoked duck breast with a shaved fennel, orange & arugula salad.
Pairing: BENROMACH ORGANIC
Roasted Enright Cattle Company Sirloin Tri-Tip, served with celeriac mash and a local blue cheese cream sauce.
Pairing: BENROMACH 15YO
Dark chocolate and espresso torte with a raspberry and ginger compote. Pairing:BENROMACH 10 YEAR OLD
The Benromach distillery is owned by the Urquhart family. Richard Urquhart is the 4th generation of this whisky legacy.
His great grandfather John Urquhart apprenticed at the age of 14 to James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail (Gordon & MacPhail; estb 24 May 1895). He subsequently became a partner and finally sole owner. John and his family were initially regarded as eccentric in buying up barrels of whisky and storing them, as opposed to blending them and selling for immediate profit. He passed his passion and knowledge of whisky on to subsequent generations. Today, Gordon &MacPhail owns several world’s oldest Single Malt Scotch Whiskies, such as The Glenlivet 70 years old!
In 1993 the family purchased their own distillery: Benromach in Forres, Speyside, in the NE of Scotland.
We are very fortunate to bring you the opportunity to meet REAL EXPERTS right here in Kingston.
This dinner is on Sunday 8 May 2016, cocktails start at 6:30pm and dinner is at 7:00pm.

| Beer of the Week
Our beer this week is Beau’s Golden Vox Rye Lagered Ale. The Golden Vox is a Beau’s beer brewed in collaboration with Canadian hip hop artis K-Os. It is a hybrid style based on American pale ales with a blend of rye and barley malts. It is aged in Rye Whiskey barrels giving it a subtle complexity for such an approachable pale ale.
| Wine of the Month
With the popularity of last month’s feature wine, we will be featuring new wines each month. For May we are going to be asking for feedback on the wines we feature at the Spring Food & Beverage Fair. Stop by the wine station and have a chat with James about the wines we will be offering. Whichever wine you give rave reviews to on Saturday night we will feature by the glass and bottle in May!

Registration is filling up fast! We only have a few spots left in the Wet Feet program, and several other courses are already full. Register today to save your spot!
If your desired course is full, make sure to put yourself on the waitlist. You never know if a spot might open up!
| RACING UPDATE
The new & improved 2016 Sailors' Handbook has been released, both online and in printed booklet form. Booklets were distributed at the recent Racers' Evening; copies are available at the bar and office. The Handbook contains sections on Keelboat Racing, Radio Controlled Racing, Cruising, and Women in Wind.
Robert Weguelin has been hired as our Race Management Coordinator for 2016. Robert has a wealth of experience in race management (e.g. London Olympics) and we are fortunate to have him. Robert helped out last year on a volunteer basis near the end of the season.
Race Committee duties for May and June are now fully assigned, as a result of the recent lottery. Each racing boat is required to perform 2 duties per year. The RC Duty list is available online in the Racing area of our web site. To request an assignment send email to email@example.com.
A list of the new 2016 PHRF handicaps for KYC racing boats has been posted on the bulletin board. If you have any questions about this, our PHRF reps are Rob Colwell and Ralph Shaw.
Reminder: Racing starts on Thursday May 5 for Sharks and Tuesday May 10 for PHRF!
| Volunteers Needed
Planning for 2016 regattas at our club is going well. To provide the best events we need lots of volunteers - people to work on water and to help ashore.
The 2016 events are:
July 1 - 3 - Shark North American Championship
July 9 - 10 - Viper 640 Canadian Championship
July 29 - 31 - The Annual KYC Skiff Regatta (29er, 49er, 49erFX)
September 10, 11 - IOM (International One Metre) Eastern Canadian Championship
September 10 - 17 - Soling World Championship
