2017 New Dock Availability!
Please remember in order to have a "spot" on one of our new docks next year you need to inform the office. We currently have several members on the list, however I have heard "through the Grapevine" that others are also interested. Please at our earliest convenience give us a call or email to ensure we have not missed your name.

KYC Clothing
I just wanted to thank everyone who have supported us in purchasing our clothing and apparel this season. If you have not seen what we have left in stock, please pop into the main office. We have a full display of the clothing for you to see and try on!

| August 19 - 21: 2016 Jazz Cruise Weekend

This year’s “cruise or drive” tour to Picton for the Jazz Festival features a Saturday night show at the Regent Theatre with wide audience appeal. This has been a popular cruisers event for the last 8 years and once again KYC members have “first call” on a block of excellent seats for the August 20th show featuring Canadian vocalist Jackie Richardson with pianist Joe Sealy. For more information visit www.pecjazz.org (under “Performers”)

There’s lots to do in the Picton area – so it’s not just about the jazz. We will hold our traditional BYO dinner on Saturday night above Books & Company and Miss Lily’s CafĂ©. Our Regent Theatre tickets are $40 each and the pre-show dinner is expected to be about $30 all in! (more on the dinner later). You are welcome to participate in one or both events. If you need overnight accommodation, check the Picton Harbour Inn – and be close by to join the cruisers for happy hour!

Jazz concert tickets for August 20th can be reserved right now at $40 each, by contacting the office at KYC manager@kingstonyachtclub.ca. John Kitney will be arranging dockage for those that are interested, along with the dinner arrangements on Saturday night. We are also looking into a special Friday night option with a Festival Players dinner-theatre production at Rosehall Run winery for “A Splinter in the Heart” (light dinner, show ticket and return taxi transport to Picton Harbour, all-in for $60 each). For show information visit www.festivalplayers.ca Phone (613-548-3052) or email manager@kingstonyachtclub.ca to secure your Jazz tickets on a “first-to-call” basis and please copy (cc) your message to kitneyj@kingston.net for contact about other weekend events. Your $40 jazz show tickets will be charged to your KYC account.

Dining

| Weekend Features

Dinner:
  • Baby Back ribs with mini-potatoes and corn-on-the-cob - $19

| Beer of the Week

Wag the Wolf - from Beau's is a weissbier (wheat beer) that is generously "late - addition" hopped with organic New Zealand varieties to provide abundant aromas of banana, clove, citrus, papaya and mango. Expert citrus, tropical fruit and spice flavours, as well as pleasant maltiness and lively carbonation. Finishes with a restrained bitterness and slight dryness.

Enjoy the Wolf!

| Wine of the Month

Gerard Bertrand 2013 Languedoc is a well balanced, dry, bright red wine produced from two fantastic grape varietals – Syrah and Grenache. These grapes alone commonly make for delicious wines because of the terroirs they thrive in. The Languedoc province throughout the South of France is one of the largest wine growing regions in the world. Soil in the region contains abundant limestone and gravel, along with an array of shrubbery that over many thousands of years has enriched the soil with fragrance. Because it’s so large, Languedoc provides a variety of terroirs that allow for unending combinations and concentrations of different varietals.

| RACING UPDATE

The Partridge Bowl Race & Picnic was held last Saturday. There was a smaller turnout than usual (6 boats, 30 people). However, the racing was excellent and the weather fantastic. Chef Greg (big thanks!) surprised us with his culinary skills. Most boats finished very closely, within a minute or so, including a photo finish! The winner of the race (and the gin) this year was Tantrim.

| Partnership Between KYC and KPS

It is with great pleasure to report to members of KYC and KPS that the partnership between the two boating organizations has been a great success! This arrangement has allowed KPS members to learn more about KYC and for KYC members to benefit from CPS-ECP educational and safety awareness programs. During the past two years more than two hundred boaters have participated and enjoyed our partnership arrangements. We would like to thank both the KYC and KPS members for their support and consideration in promoting this partnership. We look forward to a long and sustaining relationship one that benefits both organizations.
