As February arrives we, once again find the sailing season fast approaching (launch is only 3 months away!). We received many useful comments during last year’s renewal process and have made important changes to this season's renewal process for your convenience. Please click the attached link that will take you to the member's log-in page. Please enter your Club ID and password to review your member statement. (If you are having difficulty, please give us a call or email).

In order to give the membership ample time to review your statements, we have billed the 2017 Membership renewals on January 31st. The renewals are not due until February 28th. Please take a minute to review your January statement to ensure accuracy in being billed the correct membership category. You can simply let us know at any point during this month if you would like to switch membership categories or upgrade to take advantage of the many exciting initiatives this year! If we do not hear from you by the end of the month, we will assume you would like to remain in the category you were in last season.

| MEA CULPA!!!

Oh! the embarrassment of it all!
On Wednesday we publish the first edition of the KYC Currents Newsletter and the author leaves out the Junior Past Commodore from the list of Board Members! SHAME! SHAME!
Please include Junior Past Commodore Rosemary Wilson on the list of 2016-17 Board Members.

| INFORMATION ABOUT OUR COMMITTEES

KYC Currents spoke of our committee structure. There’s a list of committees, their mandates and the Board Members on each. It’s posted on the bulletin board across from the door to the bar, just as you enter the main bar area. Hopefully having access to that information will help members know who’s who. The key guy is, of course, Greg McNab, our Manager.
Soon the information will be posted to the Club website.

| COMMITTEES NEED VOLUNTEERS

Some of the committees need more volunteers. Listed below are the committees that need members and the number of additional members that each needs. This opportunity is open to all, regardless of membership type.
Entertainment Advisory (work with Greg to develop member activities)     2 people
Finance (work on Club financials with Ron Hodges and Greg McNab)     2 people
Information Management (information systems and their applications)     1 person
Learn to Sail (ALTS and JS) (continue development of our programmes)     2 people
Marketing Advisory (develop programmes to get out the word about KYC)     2 people
Membership (look at our programme and recommend changes)     2 people
Committees typically meet a few time each year. This is an opportunity for you to more deeply involved in the Club and to be part of the future.

To volunteer, get in touch with Greg McNab (manager@kingstonyachtclub.com) or the Commodore (commodore@kingstonyachtclub.com).
Come and join the fun!

| Feb 3rd: Beau's Febrewary

Beau's Febrewary is now in FULL SWING!

This week we are Featuring thier Triceratops Tipel

This Beer was brewed for the 5th annual international Gruit Day, Triceratops Tripel features an assortment of organig botanicals including bog myrtle, dried heather flowers and lavendar. The Gruit Tripel is a marriage between the centuries-old technique of using herbs, spices and other botanicals to create inventive recipes (known as gruit ales), and the relatively recent Belgian -style tripel, a dense malt-forward golden ale! Enjoy!

Next on tap is thier Farm Table: Drunkel.

Bueau's will also be hosting a TGIF next week (Feb 10th). A great excuse to come out meet our Beau's rep (who does so much for the Club!) and sample some of his "wares"

| Feb 14: Valentine's Day Dinner

| Feb 17: Trivia Ted's Quiz Night

Team Dolphin II would like to challenge all KYC members (new and old, sailors and non-sailors) to participate in the Annual KYC Quiz Night now to be held on Friday, February 17 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm.. Mark your calendars and get your crew all pumped up for an evening that always proves to be entertaining, fun, informative and often somewhat humiliating for all but the winning contestants! We are pleased to once again have the considerable skills, depth of knowledge and crowd controlling expertise of Past Commodore Ted Ison as our Quizmaster. Questions will be sailing related as well as of general interest – something for salty dogs and landlubbers alike! Dolphin II crew members are now scrounging for prizes to be awarded (hopefully) to the top 3 teams. We encourage members to form teams (max 6 members/team) based on boat crew, family associations, or simply smart friends that you think will know the answers. There will be lots of opportunity to scramble together a team from those at the bar, but to help the Dolphin II crew please submit your team entry to Greg McNab no later than February 15 so we can make the appropriate arrangements.

Remember…it is not what you know ...or who you know ...it is if you know someone that thinks they know all the answers…and you can get them on your Trivia Team!

Junior Sailing

| 2017 Head Instructor

KYC is pleased to announce Grace Whiteside as Junior Sailing Head Instructor for 2017 season. Grace grew up at KYC in the junior sailing program and joined the instructor team five years ago. Grace is currently finishing her studies at McGill in Mathematics and International Development. The JS team are very pleased and excited to have Grace as the lead for our 2017 JS season as her 15 years at the club as student and staff have given her a great amount of expertise that will no doubt make our 2017 season highly successful.

| 2017 Program Dates are Set

As we prepare for 2017, we want to make sure our past sailors have a sneak peek at our schedule and save a spot before official registration opens in mid-January. We will notify you as soon as registration is officially open and give you two weeks from that time to confirm your spot and pay before we release the spot to others. Just one small thing we are doing this year to make sure it's the best summer yet!

And before you go, don't forget to save the date for some of our upcoming special events:

| JS Open Houses

March 2 and March 30 -- 7pm-8pm
Come learn more about the spring, summer and fall options and changes in the works for this year.

| Race Teams Info Session

March 9
A time to discuss expectations, sponsors, team gear, regatta plans and answer all your race team related questions.

| Wet Mooring Applications

Thank you to all who submitted their Wet Mooring Applications, either using the online system or the paper version. In a regular year, the Mooring Allocation Committee would have produced a Club mooring plan by now. However, the mooring allocation process has been complicated by its dependence on the Harbour Expansion project. The good news is that Phase II of the Harbour Expansion Project is making headway, and the Mooring Allocation Committee is working on a mooring plan that includes the new finger docks on the south break wall and extension of the middle dock. The plan is to communicate that plan with the members by mid-month.

| Cruising Fleet's Dinner Postponed

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Cruising Fleet's 'Liar's Night: Dinner and Tall Tales' evening has been postponed from 18 Feb 2017 to its new date of Saturday, April 22, 2017. Revised details to follow. Thank-you!

| PHRF-Lo Certificates

Attention: all PHRF I, PHRF II and New Member Racing Sailors

Time to renew your PHRF-LO Certificates for the 2017 Racing season.  If you had a valid PHRF-Lo certificate through KYC in 2016, and plan to race again in 2017, no action required.  We will automatically renew your certificate for 2017.  If you do not want that to happen, please contact Rob Colwell (robcolwell1098@gmail.com) or Ralph Shaw (ralph.shaw@outlook.com).  The cost for a PHRF-LO certificate is $35.00 and you will be billed in May.

If you are new to KYC, you must have a PHRF-LO certificate to race.  If you have a certificate at your old Club, we will arrange to renew it for 2017 through KYC.  If you do not have a certificate and wish to race in either the PHRF I or PHRF II fleets.

In either case, please contact Rob or Ralph to arrange to have your sails measured and to provide the necessary contact information.

If you are new to KYC, but do not plan to race your vessel, no action required.
If you own a Shark and plan to race only in the Shark fleet, no action required.
If you own a Shark and plan to participate in the KYC weekend races, you must have a valid PHRF-LO certificate.

Any questions, please contact Rob or Ralph (KYC PHRF-LO Handicappers)

| Kingston Keelboat Championship

New for 2017! In collaboration with Collins Bay Yacht Club, in an attempt to increase overall participation levels in each weekend racing events, there will be a "Kingston Keelboat Championship". It will be based on results in both clubs' weekend racing events. From a total of 10 counter races (5 in each club), the best 4 results, including at least 1 race in the other club's events will be used to determine the champion. A trophy for the championship is being donated by Marine Outfitters. Further details will be published in the (online & printed) Sailors' Handbook.

| July Waupoos Cruise

The proposed cruise will be a Medium Distance Cruise in July/August that is co-ordinated with the Waupoos long weekend event; this cruise ends with the arrival at Waupoos where it joins with those who have sailed there directly from their home ports. It is proposed to assemble this fleet in Kingston and to leave on or about July 27th for a medium distance cruise with three legs that provide enough open water stretches to get the feeling of adventure. The anticipated arrival in Waupoos is or about Friday August 4th.

Please advise me of your interest in joining this fleet, and feel free to make recommendations
