| May 3-4: Launch 2017

Launch for spring 2017 is now set for May 3-4. May 3-4 is a Wednesday- Thursday sequence. We were originally booked for April 22-23 but that’s a tad early! Alternate weekend dates are impossible.

CACAO BLOOD ORANGE WITBIER - 5.3 % • WILD OAT

Chase away the winter blahs with a sunshiny taste of California oranges and Peruvian cacao beans! Blood Simple is a chocolate-orange riff on the classic citrus-and-spice character of a Belgian-style witbier. It is brewed with organic blood orange juice, organic orange peel, and organic cacao.

HISTORY & STYLE:
Like many Belgian styles, the roots of Witbier can be traced to the brewing traditions that originated in the monasteries of the Brussels area. The zesty citrus and spice character of the yeast is echoed by the blood orange juice and organic peel, and well complemented by the cacao.

TASTING NOTES:
Blood Simple pours cloudy with a white foam. Aromas are of orange citrus and cacao, with flavour marked by spritzy, juicy orange. The body is light and lively, and cacao asserts itself nicely in the finish.

Farm to Table 2015 Cabernet Merlot

From Victoria, Austrailia
This wine embodies thier connection to the land and their enjoyment of it. Created to match with farm raised meats, Farm To Table Cabernet Merlot offers more acidity and fleshier fruit character than traditionally seen in Aussie reds making it ideal for beef. Medium bodied; look for ripe notes of blackberry, cherry, plum and green pepper on both the nose and the palate followed by a spicy finish.

KYC sailors Robert Davis, Hugh Macrae, and Brendan Aulthouse are down in Florida right now at the Midwinters. As of Friday morning Robert Davis was leading the pack in first place in the Laser fleet. KYC Corinthian Fund – Help Support KYC’s Developing Athletes!

KYC has a record of producing strong sailors who go on to compete on the world stage. The Corinthian Fund exists to help young sailing athletes get to this level, by providing financial support to help with travel and regatta expenses for National, North American and World Championships.

Consider adding a donation to the Corinthian Fund to your annual membership payment or make a donation at any time of the year, through the KYC Office. All donations go directly into the Corinthian Fund.

Over the last 38 years, thanks to annual donations, fundraisers and some special donations, the fund’s investment portfolio stands at $153,000. The annual interest from the fund is distributed to KYC athletes, through an application process. Through the years the Corinthian Fund has…

     Distributed $190,000, an average of $5000 annually
     Supported an average of 8 athletes each year
     Supported a total of 110 athletes to date; 35 who have gone on to represent Canada on a National team (including Youth Worlds, Pan American Games & Olympic Games)

About the Corinthian Fund
In 1979, a local Lightning crew qualified for the Pan American Games using a borrowed boat. A new boat was needed in order to compete in the games and members of KYC and the local community rallied together to raise funds. Following their Silver Medal performance at the Pan Am’s the crew sold the boat and returned the $10,000. The funds were placed into a separate account, which became the Corinthian Fund.

| Sail Canada Sailor of the Month - Erin Rafuse & Danielle Boyd

Sail Canada’s Sailor of the Month award acknowledges sailing achievements by Canadians involved or associated with the sport in all its forms. Here are the latest recipients.

Rio Olympians Erin Rafuse (RNSYS) and Danielle Boyd (KYC/RNSYS) returned to World Cup action for the first time since competing at 2016 Rio Paralympic Games. The World Cup Series Miami is the first stop of World Sailing’s 2017 circuit.

Erin and Danielle sailed the Olympic class skiff boat, the 49erFX, setting sail straight to the medal race in 6th place, sailing a strong double point final to lock up 5th place overall in the 16 boat fleet.

“We are really happy with our performance,” said helm Erin Rafuse. “We sailed one of our most consistent series in our most challenging conditions. We made a couple mistakes, keeping us out of the top 3, but overall thrilled with the end result.”

This marks a personal best at a World Cup for the Canadian 49erFX team. Rafuse and Boyd placed 16th at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

| Race Management Courses

Set aside the weekend of March 18/19. Bill Visser of CBYC and KYC's Ross Cameron will present courses leading to Sail Canada Certification. The first course, a little more than half a day in length, covers material relate to your beng an Assistant Race Officer, knowledgeable about all the roles excepting being the Principal Race Officer. The second course, taking the remainder of the weekend, deals with your being given the background to be the person responsible for conducting a race/regatta - the Princiapal Race Officer. (Club level)

KYC will be hosting three events this summer and CORK will have it's usual bevy.

| COMMITTEES NEED VOLUNTEERS

Thank you to all who have said they are willing to lend a hand with the Men?'s? and ?Women’s bathroom?s? in? the? S?aints Rest. We, however are still looking for a few more "Volunteers" To save on labour cost and help clean the walls, paint the celling?s, tear out the vanities and clean the dividers. It would be great if we could get 4 more people to help. That way the work will go much quicker. Tentative work party days are March 4 & 5 and the following weekend of 11 & 12th of March" start time 09:00
