CBYC's Long Point Challenge Race is one of the races in the Kingston Keelboat Championship series. | July 1:Canada Day

Canada Day 150 is approaching fast!

Please join us at the Club for our Annual Canada Day BBQ (4 - 8pm). Then stay & enjoy Kingston's Fireworks from the new centre dock or at the breakwall! Always a great day at the Club. We are will also be participating in Kingston's Canada Day Sailpast! (see poster for additional details).

| August 5-7: KYC Waupoos Rendezvous

The KYC Cruising Fleet will be gathering from all directions for a rendezvous at Waupoos Marina again this Civic Holiday Weekend. We have reserved slips for up to 16 boats and can get more space if we know in advance. There are also opportunities to camp for those of you who have jumped to an airstream or fifth wheel (you know who you are ;-) ). Our plans are for a laid back weekend enjoying each other’s company with potential for wine and/or cheese excursions.

Saturday August 5:

Converge on Waupoos from multiple directions. Boats will be coming from Kingston, Gunnar’s fleet of extended cruisers from Oswego, and others, including Signature, from points west.

Saturday is the Shirley Homer Race for boats from various Quinte clubs and they let us join in to play last year. They will be holding their festivities under the roof on shore Saturday night and we will have a progressive supper on the dock.

Progressive Supper: We will take turns visiting around the fleet for tapas as the evening advances. Everybody will get a chance to play host, and we can all get to know a little more about each other’s boats. BYOB, details to follow.

Sunday August 6:

A lazy day in the County. Those feeling less lazy will have the opportunity for a winery or cheese factory visit, pub lunch or whatever takes their fancy.

BBQ Dinner and Dance: Under the roof starting about 6. Bring your meat, drink, and a salad to share. We’ll also need table cloths, utensils, etc. but the BBQs will be there ;-) Dance music to follow for as long as we can stay awake…

Monday August 7:

Return to KYC. It isn’t a race. It really isn’t. But we will assign start times for each boat in the fleet and the first one between KYC mark P and the flagpole will get some kind of bragging rights at the cruisers’ dinner next winter.

If you are interested, please email Rick Sellens sellensr@gmail.com with boat name, length, beam, draft, and number of people. If you let us know your port and date of departure, we can let the rest of the fleet know who’s coming from which direction. If you have requests for the music, make sure they get to us so they can be included in the evening on Sunday.

Register before July 21 to be sure of getting a slip.

| Every Wednesday night...

Women in Wind will continue to meet every Wednesday evening in the spring after yoga with Norah 4-5pm. Join us for social time directly after yoga for drinks, dinner etc.

Stone City Windward Belgian Wheat

App.: Hazy/cloudy golden with a nice bright white head.
Aroma: Bubble gum esters, sweet honey-like malt, quite fruity with stone fruits front and centre, some bread dough and yeast, not getting much in the way of phenolics or citrus/coriander.
Palate: Medium to medium+ body, moderate carbonation.
Flavour: Richly malty, cinnamon, fruity esters, tastes like a nice spice cake, sweet, still doesn’t have the coriander/citrus that one would expect; lightly to moderately sweet with low bitterness and an affable, sweet, pleasant malt character.

| Wine of the Month

Cazal Viel Syrah Rose

Cazal Viel Rose is a fresh and lively wine from the Languedoc-Roussillon reigon of France. Built on the ruins of ancient Roman an villa, Chateau Cazal Viel's land has a rich history of wine production stretching back as far as the year 1202 when the monks of the local Abbaye de Fontcaude used this site to cultivate their wine. Following the French Revolution in 1789 the Miquel family acquired the estate and began a family legacy of wine production that continues today.

Our wine of the month has a delicate pink colour with a blend of 85% Syrah & 15% Cinsault grape, This wine has invigorating red fruit flavours with round, mellow structure and a fresh and lively finish make this a perfect rose to accompany a meal or as a refreshing beverage all on it's own.

Junior Sailing

| Adventure Sailing

Junior Sailing has introduced a new course called Adventure Sailing for sailors 11-17 years old, interested in getting out on the water without a focus on racing. Sailors will learn basic sailing knowledge, gain confidence on the water and get to try out all different types of boats, such as 420s, FJs, and sharks. | ADULT LEARN-TO-SAIL

KYC is offering the Start Keelboat Sailing qualification which is an entry level course that builds basic keelboat sailing skills. This course is recommended for those with little boating or sailing experience that want to experience sailing on a keelboat and begin to build basic sailing skills in a relaxed environment and at a comfortable pace. This is a great opportunity to do some of your own sailing and further your understanding of your son or daughter's sailing. | Parent Information Night

We will be hosting our Parent Information Night on Wednesday, June 28th, at 7:00pm at the Kingston Yacht Club. We invite parents and sailors to come down to learn a bit more about the program, ask any questions, meet the instructor staff, and check out a few of the boats.

| Dinghy Racing - Monday Nights

As the weather and the water continue to warm up, we will be postponing Dinghy Race Night until Monday, June 26th. Mark it on your calendars, find yourself a skipper or a crew, and get ready for some fun races with Coach James, Coach Grace and the other JS Coaches!

This year we will have several clothing options available for purchase by Junior Sailing. We have t-shirts, bucket hats, visors and 'Buff' style bandanas. We will announce pricing for the gear next week so stay tuned!

Sailing

| Race Crew Needed

Racing Crew needed to fill-in on visiting boats for Olson 30 North American's Please contact michaelghull@gmail.com (event chair and participant) if you're interested in crewing on visiting boats in the 2017 Olson 30 NAs. We're looking for experience and non-experienced crew in all positions (including helmsman). Event is being hosted locally through CORK at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour on July 21/22/23 with party at KYC (band and beer sponsorship) on Saturday night.

| Racing

All remaining Race Committee duty slots have been assigned and skippers notified by email.

The PHRF I fleet is looking for a new fleet co-captain. The role involves representing the fleet in club racing matters and participating in the Sailing Committee, which meets monthly. If you or someone you know might be interested in the role, please contact ken.martin@kingstonyachtclub.com.

We have increasing uptake on use the raceQs app and web site. RaceQs allows us to record or race tracks for post-race viewing. See raceqs.com for details.

COMMUNITY CLUB

The Community Club boats, including Jessie (a C&C 25) and Sharks are now available for racing by club members. This is a great chance for non-boat owning members to experience the wonders of racing! Thanks to Peter French, Brad and the gang for getting these boats in shape for the coming year.

| KYC Sail to Amherst Island

N 44° 11.53 ? W 076° 39.31 ? Point “X” on chart below.

Judith and Robert Mackenzie invite the Cruisers to their place on Amherst Island on June 24. This is a rain or shine event. Come by boat or by car. Plan to arrive about noon hour. Bring your own lunch. We will offer wine, cold beer, glasses, plates and cutlery.

Getting There by Boat
Our place is on the north shore of Amherst Island located on the North Channel west of The Brothers Islands and east of Preston Cove which is located just east of Griffin Point. With reference to the chart below proceed west past The Brothers Islands to the point marked "X" on the chart. The coordinates of Point "X" are N 44° 11.53 ? W 076° 39.31 ?. Point “X” is slightly past (west) of our yellow cottage with brown roofing. Keep the entire Lennox Generating Plant in sight until reaching Point “X”. Proceeding into shore from Point “X” will be easier this year with high water but caution is still advised. Someone on shore can be contacted at 613 384-6868 who will be ready to “talk you in”. There is no dock so anchor nearby in the area marked by a WHITE float. Bring your dinghy, if not someone will ferry you to shore. Best to wear water footwear for landing.
We’ll also monitor Channel 71.

Getting There By Car
The Amherst Island ferry departs hourly from Millhaven on the half hour. Departures from the Island are on the hour. $9 return for a vehicle. Bicycles $1.50. People free. If travelling by car consider doubling up and save a fare. On arrival on the island proceed straight ahead to the four way stop intersection and turn left onto Front Road. Proceed through the hamlet of Stella and go about 4 km. Our place is at 1150 Front Road.

| Able Sail Volunteers

Able Sail is seeking additional volunteer board members. The board members collectively run the program and maintain the fleet, but at this time we especially need people with some fundraising skills.

Don’t want to make a full commitment to the board? We also welcome volunteers to help out with boat maintenance/repair, companion sailing, and event planning – on a one-time or continuing basis. The Able Sail program is very fun and rewarding, and we would love to have your participation.
