| SEPTEMBER 16: CARRUTHERS SERIES

This event consists of up to 3 short races for each of our 3 keelboat fleets. The skippers meeting is at 9:30, with 1st start at 10:30. Please refer to the online/printed Sailors Handbook for further details.

| SEPTEMBER 30: CHASE RACE / ABLE SAIL FUNDRAISER

This race starts with boats giving up their handicap time at the start and (in theory) all finishing at the same time. It's a fun way to end the racing season. For race details, refer to the (online/printed) Sailors Handbook. Individual boat start times are listed there. There will be a 80/20 draw after the race ($20/person, with 80% of proceeds going to Able Sail charity and 20% to winner of the draw) and handicap bribes before the race (delay your boat's start time by paying $5/min). Both types of donation are optional but welcome!

Women in Wind will continue to meet every Wednesday evening around 5:30pm. Join us for a sail and stay for social time for a swim, drinks, dinner etc..

Sargent Stripes Stout

This 7.9% Stout pours Opaque black with a thick tan foam. Roast barley, mocha and a touch of molasses are evident in the aroma. The flavour features intense dark, roasted malt elements, a medium bitterness, full body and a light fruitiness. The long warm finish offers residual dark chocolate and espresso notes.

Food Pairing

Sargent Stripes pairs well with Steak with green peppercorns, Dry-rubbed Jamaican jerk chicken, blackened fish tacos or rich chocolate mousse.

Thanks to John Vines for returning our wandering KYC club racing mark "H" to its proper/published location (it was off by 1/3 nm). Several racing boats were adversely impacted recently by the mark being out of position.

| IOM REGATTA

The weekend of September 9th and 10th was the annual radio controlled IOM Championship regatta held off the breakwater at KYC.

It was a beautiful weekend with lots of activity going on around us. We had boats competing from as far afield as New York city, California and Seattle, unfortunately only two boats from KYC. the races were ran in mostly a North East breeze of about 5 to 10 knots which turned out to be a bit of a challenge for the race committee, it certainly kept Tim and Ross busy making sure the course was square and the marks were true to the wind but as usual they were up to the task. we managed to do 33 races over the two days and the scores were very close at the end with the eventual winner being Jerry Brunner from Seattle. KYC put on a very good show and the Americans were very impressed with the air show of which we all had front row seats.

I would like to thank all the volunteers who were Tim Garret ( crash boat ) Mary Wilson ( on site scorer ) Lana Vanrossem who tabulated all the scores from somewhere in cyber space and Ross Cameron who wore one of his many hats for KYC as RD. The KYC staff did an excellent job of providing lunches and libations for the out of towners and all involved mentioned they can't wait to return next year.

We will do the best we can to get more local boats involved next year.

| EYC 2018 REGATTA

Peter Kraszewski, Regatta Chair and is our lead KYC organizer recently held a planning meeting. The meeting was well attended (15+ people) and a lot of ground was covered in preparation for next year's regatta. Responsibilities in various areas were assigned (race management, social, volunteers, digital media presence, marketing, trophies, harbour master, etc) and the financials started. There were even some historical memorabilia items on hand, including a set of flags for the EYC regattas going back to the 1960's and results from past EYC regattas held at KYC. The next planning/organising meeting is scheduled for November 1. If you are interested in helping out with this regatta please contact Peter K.
