Financial Planning Update

I would like to extend my thanks for those who attended the Town Hall meeting

fine tuning, we plan on bring our proposed changes to the membership for a vote
sometime later in the summer, so please keep an eye out for notice of the next

ALTS Instructors Needed!
Members, ALTS needs your help!

We are still looking for one instructor to do Session B (Starting June 30th). The course can be split up between a few members if needed.

We also need 5+ instructors for Session C (Starting Aug 4th)

ALTS is an important source for new members and new entrants to the sport of sailing. If you have sailing experience and can spare to teach even a few lessons it would be a great contribution to your club and to the program.

We provide teaching materials as well as guidance for new instructors (as well as some official looking shirts).

If you are interested in becoming an instructor please contact Brett Thompson at office@kingstonyachtclub.ca or call 613-548-3052 ext 1

Departure from the KYC is at approximately 10:00 a.m. with a noon hour arrival time at Amherst Island.  Participants bring their own food to contribute to the pot luck

Directions on how to get to Robert and Judith’s home on Amherst Island will be forwarded next week. In the meantime, please advise Robert and Judith if you intend to participate.
Looking forward to seeing you there.

Message from the Commodore

KYC Members,

I am writing to inform you that our General Manager, Glenn Singleton, has resigned from his position as General Manager at KYC to accept another job.  This will take effect at the end of June, 2014.

Glenn has helped the club through a very active and challenging period.  He has elevated our F&B service at the club, improved our member services and help make it possible for the Board to tackle larger projects.  I want to extend my best wishes and success to Glenn in his future endeavours.

The Flag Officers, Board of Directors and staff will work hard keep things running smoothly, but I ask for understanding and cooperation from the membership as we adjust and until we are able to fill the vacancy.

Chris Walmsley
Commodore

Breakwall Reminder

Now that the warmer weather is here the sailing season can be declared "Officially Open!"  Therefore, members are asked to refrain from driving on to the breakwall. We have 6 lovely and spacious new carts so there is no reason for anyone to drive out to the breakwall.

OK, OK, there are always exceptions to every rule so if you feel you should be permitted to drive on to the breakwall
please request permission in person at the office or email
manager@kingstonyachtclub.ca.

Requests must include the reason,
estimated arrival and departure times.

Thank you for your understanding, cooperation and respect of this request.

Escort Boats Need for YMCA Swim Across Lake Ontario

The summer of 2013 saw a daring group of women attempt to swim the 305 kilometre length of Lake Ontario from Kingston to Burlington. Unfortunately they weren't successful in their bid. They have, however, inspired a group of Kingston athletes to take up the challenge.

From July 14th-19th, a group of athletes and their coach - marathon swimmer, Vicki Keith - will embark on an exciting, charitable adventure from Burlington to Kingston, Ontario. The team will swim in relay fashion day and night for six days along the shore of Lake Ontario until they reach their destination. This is a fundraising event to help YMCA's across Ontario create more accessible opportunities for young people with physical disabilities.

We are looking for large boats, both sail and power, to join us on this journey. Ideally we would like to find one or two boats that would complete the whole adventure with us, but we are also welcoming boaters who would like to 'come aboard' our flotilla for a day or two to support the athletes and the charity.

If you are interested, or would like more information, please contact Vicki Keith at  vicki_keith@kingston.ymca.ca  or (613) 546-2647 ext 251.
