	May 22, 2015 TONIGHT! Friday BBQ is Back After last Friday's successful BBQ, we have decided to have them every Friday. Some come on down to the club for another delicious BBQ buffet Tonight! The bar staff will be mixing up white sangria and the  buffet will feature: Korean Style Bulgogi Flank Steak with House Made Kimchi A Choice of Pork or Chicken Souvlaki Burgers Cooked to Order Twice Baked Potatoes Greek Salad Asian Noodle Salad Roasted Asparagus House Made Chips. Carrot Cake Strawberry & Rhubarb Fruit Tarts Fresh Veggies Fruit Salad Just like last week adults are $20 and kids under 12 are $10, plus taxes and gratuity. There is no need for a reservation, just come down to the club after 5:30 and ask one of our friendy bar staff to sign up! A Message from GM Greg McNab Well it seemed like May was so far away when I first started here in December, and we will be talking about June next week! I wanted to update everyone on a few changes you may have seen or heard about! To start we have done some rearranging of staff offices and locations. When you walk into the Club you will see we have one less employee in the front office. Brett is now over in the Saint's Rest building along with Junior Sailing and our tenants. His office is located in the unit closest to the Bosun's garage when facing Saint's from the yard. In addition to this unit being much needed office space, we have plans for it to be a private meeting area and multipurpose space.  Brett’s roles and responsibilities have not changed that much, he is still heavily involved in the day to day operations of the Club (either by phone, email, or in person).  My office is located in the main office as you walk in to the Clubhouse. I strongly feel a General Manager should be in front of the membership (either in an office or a casual setting). I want to be involved and accessible and the best location for this is the center or “heart” of what happens at the Club.  The third floor office is now shared by James (F&B Manager) and Chef Neil. They are close to the kitchen, yet have a place  accomplish work necessary to operate the F&B Department.  The process will be very organic this year and although we have several long range plans and goals for how to efficiently run our organization, we will review on a monthly basis things that are working better for us internally and/or what needs to be reassigned or altered in order to have smooth operations at the Club. I have been asked several times…can we afford it? Well beyond staff satisfaction and desperately needed work space, I feel in time we will have a much better organized Club with a new space that can be potentially rented out or can assist with us achieving additional revenue with proper marketing and awareness. It also allows us to book more events in the main hall on a regular basis and still allow us to have a place for committees or our board to meet. Please stop in and say “hi” to Brett. He will still be able to answer your calls, emails and be more than happy to see you if you wish to make any form of payment. He has promised his coffee will also always be fresh…. Greg McNab General Manager F&B Update The Food & Beverage Fair has been rescheduled to Saturday June 20th and will feature new food ideas from Chef Neil's kitchen and wine and beer sampling from KYC's  suppliers. This is a great chance to find out about what we have in store for the club this summer or introduced new people to KYC. Members are $20 and non-members are $25. This week our feature draft tap is Muskoka Brewery's Summerweiss, a delicous Bavarian style wheat beer. 2015 Community Club Membership Now Included in Family and Single Memberships!  We are pleased to announce that Community Club (CC) Membership is now included for Single and Family members.  As in the past, any Single or Family member is eligible to apply for CC membership to have access to KYC's Shark Fleet. New CC applicants will complete an orientation session, and a sail test as required, before being granted access to the reservation system and the fleet.  This is a great opportunity for members who do not own a keel boat and those with larger boats who may occasionally want to sail on a Shark. Please contact Brett Thompson (office@kingstonyachtclub.ca) if you are interested in joining the program or have any questions. Adult Learn to Sail Instructors Needed! We are looking for a number of volunteer instructors to run our Adult Learn to Sail sessions! This is a great chance to support your club, sharpen your sailing skills and meet new people! We are currently looking for instructors for all three sessions. Every session runs Monday and Wednesday nights from 17:30-20:30: Session 1: June 1-26 Session 2: July 6-31 Session 3: Aug 10-Sept 4 We are able to work around availability (i.e. half session vs whole session or Monday nights only). Within each session we offer a beginner level course as well as an intermediate level. If you are new to the program, we offer an orientation "on the water" sesson to help get you acquainted with the material and the boats. These sessions are provided on a request basis. Sailpast Please plan to attend Sailpast on June 6th. The Commodore's Boat (Kibitka) will be anchored and ready to receive by 1530. We have booked the Roosevelts (with member Tom Stewart on vocals and harmonica) for the post-sailing party. With the nice weather comes KYC's summer hours. KYC is now open 7 days a week! From Monday to Friday the bar will be open from 11:00 to 22:00 and Chef Neil Seguin's kitchen will be serving up our delicious new menu from 11:00 to 21:00 daily. On Saturday and Sunday we will be serving Brunch from 10:00 to 14:00 and the Lunch and Dinner Menu from 14:00 to 21:00 on Saturday, on Sunday the Lunch and Dinner Menu is available from 14:00 to 20:00. The bar will be open 10:00 to 22:00 on Saturday and 10:00 to 21:00 on Sunday. Gas dock is open 7 days a week from 08:00 - 17:00. Regatta Safety Officer Training Course June 6th & 7th This Regatta Safety Officer Training Program was developed to enhance the experience of competitors at regattas. Successful completion of the theoretical training on Saturday and the Sunday, on- water practical session, will provide the participants with two of the three steps toward a Regatta Safety Officer Certificate. Some very windy and a some no wind nights. Participation is down but expected to grow as the winds stabilise and the temperature climbs. The Pigeon Island Race is this Saturday. This can be a great race and there are lots of trophies! We are looking for race committee help for Karl... starting a weekend race is a relatively easy way to fulfill one of your RC commitments and not miss a regular race. FREE Recreational Vessel Courtesy Check KYC Saturday May 23 1000 to 1400 Members of the Kingston Power and Sail Squadron will be at KYC May 23 between 1000 and 1400 offering free Recreational Vessel Courtesy Checks (RVCC).  Invite one of our specialists aboard, and in about 30 minutes they will determine if you have the safety equipment required by Transport Canada.  If your boat is fully equipped you will receive a 2015 RVCC decal.  If you require equipment, take your RVCC form to Marine Outfitters or West Marine for a 10% discount on required items.  To book your RVCC contact Graham Mutch at mutchoheare@gmail.com or 613-542-4406.  See you on May 23. Soling One Meter Canadian Championships KYC radio control fleets will be hosting the Soling One Meter Canadian Championships on June 13/14 weekend off the breakwater. Registration and practice sailing will take place on Friday June 12 with racing all day on Saturday and Sunday. Approximately 20 boats are expected from Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario and several locations in the USA. We are looking for volunteers to help administer this event. Contact John Lowther or Paul Switzer at switzerp@cogeco.ca if you are interested in helping out. Able Sail is looking for volunteers! We need people to help with boat maintenance, and to act as sailing companions (especially on the new Sonar). We plan to have the boats on site by next week, so the last week of May is a crucial time for getting the boats in shape for the summer. If you would like to be a sailing companion, there will be a volunteer training session at KYC at 5 pm on 10 June, to cover the basics of accessible sailing. This is also a great volunteer opportunity for highschool students looking for a fun way to get their volunteer hours. The clinic will involve a combination of instruction and practical measurement sessions. There are no particular requirements for candidates who wish to attend the clinic, but racing experience is desirable.  Numeracy and a facility with measurement tools will also aid prospective measurers. Expressions of interest in attending are welcomed to assist Sail Canada in determining whether hosting the clinic is worthwhile. Please indicate interest by responding here HAPPY SAILING!
