Frost's Thoughts
Sailing is a world wide sport that brings many people together for fun and competition. While there are many types of boats and different ways of getting out on the water, the sailing community is tight knit. This was proven just this past week when USA Olympian Trevor Moore was knocked off his coach boat and became separated while out on Key Biscayne, in Miami, FL.
A search party was organized over three days which included the coast guard, fish and wildlife and countless friends and family out in their own ribs. Unfortunately the search was called off on Sunday with no sign of Trevor.
It was a stark reminder to all boat users to take safety seriously and to wear their PFD's and kill cords while operating boats.
Trevor did much for the development of skiffs in North America. Competing at the highest level at the Olympics in the 49er, placing 15th at London 2012 and coaching the next wave of future Olympians. I personally competed and on occasion trained with Trevor when I competed in the 49er class. He was a star athlete who competed hard on the water, but had time for anyone back on shore to talk sailing.
While many of our 49er and FX sailors had never met Trevor personally, they are recognizing his contribution to the sailing world displaying a sticker on their main sails.
