Wag the Wolf

White I.P.A. 5% ABV

Wag the Wolf is a hazy white I.P.A. that packs bright and citrusy organic hops into every sip. Brewed with a substantial ratio of organic wheat to barley malts, its aromas of lemon and grapefruit lead into a finish that is lively and refreshingly hoppy.

History and Style

The white I.P.A. is a modern mash-up of two beer styles, a classic wheat ale and a bold American I.P.A. To brew Wag the Wolf we use organic Motueka and Rakau hops, and a late-addition hop technique to draw extra aroma from them. The Wag the Wolf artwork features a striking graphic wolf with heterochromatic eyes.

Tasting Notes

Wag the Wolf pours a hazy yellow with dense white foam. There is a burst of citrus with lemon and grapefruit on the nose along with banana notes. The flavour is similarly fruity; with an additional hints of papaya, peach and mild peppery notes. The bitterness is firm but not overwhelming. It has lively carbonation and a medium body. The finish is bright and balanced.

The rescheduled Carruthers Series was held last Sunday. We had 3 great races in ideal conditions but low turnout on the 2nd day. The winners were: PHRF 1: 1st Long Time Running (Reid/Ruddy/Hull), 2nd Dragon Bait; PHRF 2: 1st Selene (Vine); Sharks: 1st R&R (Adams).

Mark it in your calendars. Awards Night is Saturday Nov 16 this year. This is always a great way to end the year, recognising winners in our evening & weekend racing series, as well as sailors meriting special awards, and enjoying great food & beverage with our crews & competitors.

We are now accepting nominations for our KYC Special Awards. The form is available (as a PDF) from SAILING / KEELBOAT RACING area of our website. Printed forms will eventually be sprinkled through the club. It's not too early to be thinking about worthy recipients (i.e. before memories fade). Please nominate many & often! Email nominations to sailing@kingstonyachtclub.com or drop in the KYC mail slot for Ken Martin.

Please welcome Galen Richardson and Mae Delange (QST members) as they help us with race management (and operating the Orange Peel) for the remainder of season. If any club members are interested in a paid part-time position helping with race management next year, please contact Ken Martin or the General Manager.

Our last weekend event is the Chase Race & Able Sail Fundraiser on Sat Sep 28. This pursuit type distance race is often a great way to end the racing season. Boats give up their handicap at the the beginning of the race and everybody (more or less) ends up at on the patio around the same time. There will be an (optional) fundraising component to the event. Details to follow and be implemented at the Skippers Meeting at 0930 and after the finish. First signal is at 1030. Start times for boats are listed in our online Sailors Handbook and printouts on the bulletin board.

This year, the September series finishes with races on Oct 1 and 3, to make up for not racing the 1st week in September. First signal for the races will be at 1745 instead of usual 1800. We're hoping for nice long sunsets to give us time to run good races!

The Sailing Committee recently met to review the past year and start planning for next year. Please share your views on our Sailing programs and how they can improved, with the members listed below. If you are interested in helping out on any of KYC's programs, committees, etc, for the coming year, this is a good time of year to step forward.
