From the Commodore….

...thanks to Members and Staff.
A hearty note of thanks to Matt White, who has done Yeoman’s work on our IT system. Our IT system has been rebuilt over the last three years- but not completely rebuilt.
Earlier last week we experienced a failure of one of the yet unreplaced bits, causing a complete shutdown.
Matt was our man on the spot- diagnosed the problem, and fixed it… better than a half day’s work.
His efforts were over and above his “duties”.. and we thank him for his esteemed dedication.
And then THIS week, a cable failure… seems as tho’ teh squirrels have an apetite for cable insulation- Matt and the Cogeco crew found and fixed the problem.
Do thank him and/or buy him a beer when you see him..

Notes of thanks too, to our Staff.
In the absence of a General Manager.
Our Controller, John Whelan has his fingers on the cash register and the financial pulse of your Club.
He’s doing a great job keeping the ship afloat, while we navigate the waters between managers.
Brandon, our omnipresent Bar Manager is front and centre and keeping the Bar and Entertainment side of things humming along too.
Neil and his sous staff, ensconced up in the galley, are keeping the food hot and yummy.
So, KUDOS to our staff who are keeping things alive and well!
Your Board of Directors is quite pleased with how our staff are handing things.
Come down for a pint- watch the Brier, enjoy a bite or two…

The GM hunt is on, with interviews have commenced..
Thanks to Rosemary Wilson and her Committee for their thorough work and upcoming deliberations..
We’ll soon know the situation.
In the meantime, operations at KYC are operating!

Our first crack at the harbour plan has been developed.
John Kitney and i took a whirl at it a couple of weeks ago..
Looks like we’ll have an almost full harbour, and everyone in pretty good berths.

And… machines and rock are moving in to buttress the breakwall..

And, I know it’s three months away, but how about considering upholding a long Yacht Club tradition, and sailing the Commodore’s Sailpast. it’s not about or for the Commodore, but and annual tradition.
Guaranteed to be a party, KYC will put on some good entertainment and fine fare to make it all the more worth your while!

| March 18: Ramble On and Finnish Line talk - 6:30PM

Chris and Linda (Ramble On) and Bob (Finnish Line 2.0) are giving a talk of their 2,950 nm voyage to the east coast this past summer at a club in Ottawa in February. After the off Broadway try out they will be presenting the same talk at our Club on Wednesday March 18th at 6:30pm. This is also a Cruiser Muster night.

Good Time Session I.P.A. delivers fruity hop aromas and full flavour in an easy-to-enjoy light ale. Brewed with organic nelson sauvin and centennial hops, the recipe adds wheat and oats to barley malts for a satisfying and uncompromising craft beer experience.

History and Style

A session I.P.A. is a lower-alcohol expression of an India Pale Ale that highlights approachable hop aroma and flavour, without intense bitterness. The hop-derived citrus and tropical fruit notes lead into a fuller mouthfeel than might otherwise be expected from a light ale.

Tasting Notes

Good Time Session IPA pours gold with white foam. The aroma offers a combination of citrus, gooseberry, pineapple flavours and aromas. The flavour is juicy with subtle hop bitterness. The body is light and refreshing. The finish is clean and lingeringly hoppy.

| Marine Radio Course in Kingston 8 & 22 Apr 2020

Kingston Power and Sail Squadron offers a two-evening Maritime Radio course to obtain the Restricted Operator's Certificate (Maritime) with Digital Selective Calling. Students are requested to send their name, email and phone number to kingston.vhfmarinecourse@gmail.com

Wed 8 Apr 6:30 to 9:30 PM (Maritime Radio Student Notes manual and Seminar)
- Wed 22 Apr 6:30 – 9:30 PM (Exam)
- Location: Ongwanda, 191 Portsmouth Ave, Kingston
- Price: $160 ($138 for CPS members) tax included. If student already has a manual, price is reduced $50.

| Sailwave Scoring Clinic

We all know that there isn’t anything that is quite as much fun as racing around the water in sailboats, but are you wondering what the Scoring Oz does with those finishes behind the results curtain?!? Maybe you would like to don the scoring hat at your own club, but need some help getting started. Or perhaps you just need to beat the late winter blues with a day surrounded by other sailors excited by the prospect of starting the new season with a new skill.

To that end, CORK is offering a Basic Sailwave Scoring Clinic that is open to all interested.

When: Sunday March 29th, 9:30am-4pm
Where: Kingston Yacht Club (1 Maitland St)

Basic Scoring
The Basic course will provide an overview of the scoring process.
This course is designed for those looking to learn, update, or add to their Sailwave skills.
There is no pre-requisite for the Basic Scoring workshop but an ability to focus and attend details in an open environment and a solid understanding of Windows operating system are desirable assets. Participants who bring their own laptop computer loaded with the latest version of Sailwave will benefit most from the Basic workshop.

This workshop will cover:
- Sailwave Basics
- Setting up the Regatta
- Scoring Races
- Scoring Changes
