| Message from the Commodore

KYC SOLPast was an unbridled success! Thanks to ALL who dressed up their boats, and made up the KYC fleet to ring in the 2020 sailing season. Thirty-eight boats saluted the Flagship in what were perfect conditions for a lazy sailpast. We did this caper without sailing instructions (per se), and the fleet sailed past mostly in order. Many of you took off for an afternoon sail in what developed into nice conditions. Around 1700hrs, your galley staff did a great job of the first al fresco COVID friendly buffet of 2020. In short, Saturday’s event was all good- total success!

The reviewing party, in particular the ladies aboard “Clipper" took copious notes and pictures of the goings-on, and here are their picks for distinguished SOLPast performances.

Most anxious to Salute- Anna Powick in her Laser AHEAD of the Orange Peel.
Best Dressed - Spindrift (and their salute was right up there, too!)
Best Fantasy Theme and Mascot - Solevento
Most Improved Flag Dip- Solevento, who, I hasten to remind you, dipped their flag IN the water last year.
Best Figurehead - Selene
Best Safety First Award, best mask for a boat and well protected crew - Windfarer
Best Family Fleet - A.J. Keilty and family
Best Dramatic Manoeuvre During Sailpast - Solevento
Best Kiss - Poch Ma Hon
Best Excuse for Not Tipping My Hat, "My Hands are Full" - Single Handed Sailor holding a sheet in one hand, the tiller in the other and wearing a mask - so we weren't sure who it was?
Best Salute - Off Leash
Best Canoe- the canoe..
Best bespoke masks.. the reviewing party…
Thanks to the teams who helped make the SOLPast success, Manager Daniel, who’s feet are getting VERY wet these days, Tom Wilson who provided the graphics and timely digital media reminders, Bar Manager Brandon who “designed” and set the place up. To our returning serving staff and of course to the Galley Crew who keep puttin’ it together day in and day out.

Upcoming…. The PARTRIDGE BOWL…WILL be sailed Saturday July 18. Your sailing Committee is busy figuring out a way to make this COVID friendly and safe. Stay tuned for details as they get worked out.
The Partridge Bowl is an annual “fun” sail/race to our Jemmett’s property. It’s a "chase race”, is always a good party and lots of fun. Even under COVID rules, we can still make this fun and extra safe. Stay tuned.

With over 18 new cases of Covid-19 reported in our community and many of these cases stemming from the recently reopened hospitality sector, I would ask that you stay vigilant in using proper protection and exercising 2-meter safe distancing. When entering any commercial premises in the KFL&A including KYC, please wear a mask. It is mandatory.

Please do enjoy our patio and our wonderful menu prepared by Chef Neil and his team but please wash and/or sanitize your hands frequently, host meetings online or enjoy the great outdoors. Please follow all directions given by our Governments and public health. Let's all play our part in keeping our community safe.

Sailing Academy
From our newly rebranded Kingston YC Sailing Academy, comes the exciting launch of our unique online sailing program. Please register now to start classes on Monday for free! You will be amazed at how interactive and dynamic these courses will be, led by Head Instructor Rachel Harris and our incredible coaching team.

Race Training
And following new Ontario Sailing protocols, our race team athletes will combine the online learning modules with on-water, single-handed race training beginning July 13th. These are for experienced athletes only - not learn to sail participants.

Staff
As our newest Club Attendants, please join me in welcoming Henry Major Gingras and Anna Beyak to the KYC Staff Team. Henri and Anna are the true forces behind that power washer keeping the t-dock clean and your gas tank filled!

Parking
It may have taken me three times to get it right but indeed Parking Stickers have finally arrived. Yes! See Brandon for yours.

Canada Day
Kingston YC is the best place to spend Canada Day! Wear your red and white, get to know new members (from a distance), go for a sail, enjoy a swim and a delicious dinner on the most beautiful patio in town! Please contact Brandon to reserve a patio spot and/or dinner.
