A Cozy Clubhouse on the lake

| Commodore's Log

At the risk of being repetitive, it is essential we all thank everyone who participated in our 125th Annual General Meeting on Nov. 26, 2020. In particular, we acknowledge the efforts of the IT/IM Committee for helping pull off the first truly all volunteer all digital AGM in the 125-year history of KYC (leading edge stuff). This experience and the lessons learned will be really beneficial for communications with our membership.

Thank you to all KYC members, staff, and volunteers who remained flexible through what was such a challenging year. We must also recognize with heartfelt thanks the members of the Executive, the Board and our many committees who are not continuing in their past positions this year.

The key take-aways from our AGM may be summarized by saying we have a large core of very talented, enthusiastic, and concerned people, many of whom have offered to assist KYC leadership in analysing our context and proposing optional solutions. This work has never really stopped but you can be assured the transition of new players to new positions has already been enthusiastically started and we will soon be communicating the Board’s priorities and activities for the upcoming year.

What we really need is each and every member to actively promote and support KYC as best they can by;
- encouraging non-members to try our F&B service,
- promoting our Learn to Sail (LTS) programs,
- welcoming and mentoring new members,
- participating in upcoming events and work parties as Covid protocols allow,
- generating new ideas and re-vising old ideas that we have all enjoyed in the past

Now is the time we strike our new budgets, create our communications, action and operations plans, organize committees and work parties and push forward with strategic planning. Positive and supportive criticism along with sensitivity, patience with each other and a lot of good humour and fun will get us through these continuing difficult times. Our next year is still fraught with pitfalls so we still need to be wary and creative.

Personally, I want to thank you all for your vote of confidence. I look forward to continue applying myself towards a sustainable and excitingfuture for KYC. If you are concerned about an issue, please contact me directly.

Respectfully,
Robert (Rob) Crothers

Accompanied by pianist Nick Lund, John Kitney and Ross Cameron will lead this joyful event. Following the carols, a KYC classic roast beef dinner awaits! Please call the bar to make a reservation for dinner no later than Wednesday.

| Cruising

The Cruisers’ Monthly Musters are returning. Thanks to some good ideas from Kate Simpson and helpful backing from Brandon and Daniel we will resume the Musters starting Dec 16th. Of course, because of the times they must change format. In the past Musters were free format gatherings for cruisers to informally meet over drinks and finger foods. The new format will be a more organized affair with a planned event for each.

The first Cruiser's Muster will be on the 3rd Wednesday, December 16th. It will start at 5:00 and individual app plates will be distributed about 5:30. December 16th will be a Trivia Event so collect your (smart) friends.

Please RSVP a week in advance to facilitate ordering the food by letting Brandon know bar@kingstonyachtclub.ca. If people wish to stay for dinner, they can book tables for 7:00ish.

The January Muster will be January 20th and will feature Linda, Chris and Bob presenting their 2019 4½ month Down East sailing trip.

The February Muster will be February 20th and be a Fest/Ice and Fire Night.

Don’t forget to let Brandon know by Dec 9th!
