| Dry Mooring

Thank you to all who have officially registered your Dry Sail with the office. We still notice there are a few boats/Kayaks/Trailers that do not have a 2017 Sticker. If you are one of these individuals, please stop in and see Greg, who will be happy to give you one (and remove you from the naughty list). Many thanks for your co-operation.

 

| Email Statement notice

Hopefully you received an email notice from the office yesterday, giving you your account balance (which is not due until the end of the month). We are in the process of streamlining several processes at the Club (this being one of them) in order to reduce paper and mailing. We hope this will be informative to the membership as well.

Just as a reminder - Credit Cards are processed during the last week of the month (around the 24th - depending on timing and where the weekend falls) we encourgae members to take advantage of the ability to pay your statement online with your financial institution anytime after you receive your KYC Statement, otherwise we will process as mentioned on or around the 24th of every month.

If you have any questions or comments with this process please do not hesitate to give us a call.

Please note that the Mackinnon Brothers Beer Tour and Luncheon that was planned for August 6th has been postponed due to poor registration. We appologize to all those that inquired or reserved tickets.

| August 12-13: SHARK CANADIANS REGATTA

Come down to the club and cheer on our KYC Sharkies. Race results will be posted online in the "Sailing / Racing / Regattas" area of our web site. Please contact Robert Weguelin if you are interested in helping with this or future regattas.

 

| August 18-20: Jazz Cruise Weekend

This year’s “cruise or drive” tour to Picton for the Jazz Festival features a Friday night show with works from Brazilian jazz composer Antonio Carlos Jobim (performed by Gord Sheard and Luanda Jones). Please contact the Regent Theatre (www.pecjazz.org) to get your own tickets.

There’s lots to do in the Picton area – so it’s not just about the jazz. To begin with, we will hold our traditional BYO dinner on Friday night (Aug 18).. We already have about 20 people signed up for this event so if you are interested in joining the group for $30 per person “all in”, just send a message to John Kitney kitneyj@kingston.net). Friday’s dinner is at 6:00 pm at Miss Lily’s Café on Main Street.

Dockage can also be arranged with our group at the Tip of the Bay (sorry – Harbour Park Marina has already been assigned to the first 5 boats)… just include your request in your message to John.

 

| Wednesday night with Women in Wind

Women in Wind will continue to meet every Wednesday after yoga with Norah 4-5pm. Join us for a sail and stay for social time for a swim, drinks, dinner etc..

Come down to KYC for yoga, every Wednesday!

  • Where: Partridge Room (Upstairs), KYC
  • When: 1545h, every Wednesday, classes formally start at 1600h.
  • Cost: The cost is $10 per session (which we will be happy to apply to your account)
  • What to Bring: Mat, comfortable clothes & H2O (A mat can be arranged in advance if you need, please contact Norah for this and with any questions pertaining to what will be covered in class).

| Beer of the Week


This month from KYC is happy to bring you Saison from Beaus as our Beer of the month. This unfiltered beer originates from the Wallonia region of Belgium where it traditionally was brewed to slake the thirst of farmhands at harvest time. It is fruity and spicy with lively carbonation.

Saison pours a hazy yellow with a dense white foam. Tropical fruit dominate the aroma of this beer with a hint of white pepper. Saison is a refreshing sipping beer that finished with a solid punch of flavor from the organic Rakau hops.

Brewers suggest Chilled shrimp cocktail, fresh oysters on a half shell or fresh sheep milk feta as ideal food pairing, I would suggest trying this full flavored beer with our summer spinach salad or a perfectly grilled steak from our Kitchen. Cheers!!

Junior Sailing

| Wetfeet Sailing

The Wetfeet program is designed to give our youngest sailors (5-8 year olds) an introduction to our beautiful lake and sailing. Instruction will be done with two sailors per Optimist in the inner harbor. Emphasis will be placed on fun, teamwork, and how a boat feels when it's in the water. On Monday, sailors will participate in water safety activities and introductory sailing games. Tuesday through Friday, the focus will be on getting sailors out on the water and having fun. Very basic sailing skills will be introduced such as safety, sailing preparation, and wind awareness. The goal will be to get sailors comfortable with being in a new and exciting environment out on the water. There is still space available in Wetfeet in the last week of the summer program – August 21st to 25th. Sign up today before space runs out.

| Adventure Sailing

There has been another Adventure Sailing week added for the last week of the summer program – August 21st to 25th. This is a great way to end your summer sailing! Adventure Sailing is for sailors 11-17 years old, interested in getting out on the water without a focus on racing. Sailors will learn basic sailing knowledge, gain confidence on the water and get to try out all different types of boats, such as 420s, FJs, and Sharks. https://school.kingstonyachtclub.com/juniorsailing/?page=eleven-up

| Dinghy Racing - Monday Nights

Dinghy Race Night has been shifted for this week only to Wednesday evening. Meet at KYC at 5:00pm to rig for a 5:30pm first race. KYC 420s are able to be used.

| Adult Learn to Sail

Adult Learn to Sail has sessions available to August and September. It's a fantastic time of the year to be out on the lake while improving your sailing skills. If you're interested in doing some Adult Sailing lessons, please check out: https://school.kingstonyachtclub.com/adultsailing/

| Youth Regatta Report

KYC held the KYC Youth Regatta (formerly known as the Bronze Regatta) last Thursday. It was a great opportunity to again bring together a fleet of CANSail 2-5 sailors from RMC, Collins Bay and KYC for some action packed racing. KYC is excited to host the Crothers Youth Regatta (named in remembrance of Bob and Katherine Crothers) on Tuesday August 22nd. Thank you to the Laser Race Team and KYC Coaches for making these regattas happen.

Sailing

| PARTRIDGE BOWL & BBQ

Participation: 45+ people from 8 racing sailboats, 4 power boats. Results: 1st Farr 30 (Ruddy), 2nd Signature (Sellens), 3rd Take 5 (Falkson). Other finishers: Teyma (Weguelin), Selene (Vines), Micro Cat (Gibson), Solevento (Deluzio) and Ramble On (Walmsley). The race started in a very light breeze and built enough to get all racers to Jemmett's Landing under sail in in less than 3 hrs with overall finishing separation of less than 15 minutes. This year, the Partridge Bowl goes to the (still to be named) Farr 30 (with grandchildren as crew) but, with the Farr returning to the club early, its contents was shared by the Signature crew (the Sellens sporting matching outfits) with the other racers & celebrants. Many thanks to Chef Neil and Manager Greg for an excellent BBQ ribs & chicken dinner. FYI, Greg took some great individual boat pics on the way down.

COMMUNITY CLUB (KYC OWNED BOATS) UPDATE
The number of Skippers who sail our Community Club (KYC Owned Keelboats) continues to grow. Our C&C 24 'Jessie' is popular and can be reserved to sail during the day and stop overnight (locations such as Cedar Island, Jemmett's Landing or Collins Bay.) Jessie has 25 Skippers who are also Shark Skippers. In total, there are more than 50 Skippers who share our KYC Owned Keelboats using an on-line reservation system which is visible to all members when you log in and click on Community Club. | Able Sail Update

'Able Sail Kingston is now half way through its summer program. With over 35 sailors and 9 full and part-time staff it has been a busy and fun 5 weeks! If you would like to volunteer to take people sailing with an instructor on our Sonar, Zest, please email ablesailkingston@gmail.com. Time commitment would be one morning or afternoon per week. Able Sail would like to send a huge thanks to Brad, Cole, Nick, Sean the rest of the KYC staff for making the "temporary" docks wheelchair accessible! See you on the water!'
