| Message from the General Manager
May is here, which means we are getting busier by the day! And because of this, I would like to remind (update) everyone on some activities of the Club.
We are now open seven (7) days a week with our opening hours being 11.30 am (Mon - Fri) and 10am on weekends with closing hours at 8pm (volume of business may dictate closing earlier or remaining open later). We would appreciate a "heads up" if your party is 5 or more. With water levels rising daily, we anticipate our outdoor patio to once again being compromised to the higher water and we will adjust accordingly.
Our apologies, we missed one new member and launch volunteer in last week's knotmeter, please welcome Dawna Bate!
If any members should have any questions or comments about the Club, or Club activities, please do not hesitate to give me a ring (email) or pop in and say hello!
| Foxy Guests
We would like to inform everyone we have a Fox Family living on or near the Club at the moment. They have been sighted near the gas shed as well as in and around the boat lockers. At this point they are not causing any harm or issues, and we expect they will make themselves more scarce as we become busier at the Club, however we did want all to be reminded to keep your distance if you see one of them and not approach them.

| Missing Battery Charger
The club's primary battery charger was borrowed and not returned during launch day. The volunteers and staff recall a member borrowing it to fire up a flat battery to start their boat. We were happy to help, but have not gotten the charger back yet. If you borrowed the charger during launch, please return it to Brad or message if you recall seeing it; email@example.com.

| Canada 2019 Blind Fleet Racing World Championship
Greetings from the Kingston Yacht Club!
KYC is pleased to announce that we are hosting the Blind Fleet Racing World Championships from September 1-8, 2019.
World Sailing has appointed KYC as the organizing authority, a rare opportunity for a truly international, world class regatta to be held in the home waters of Kingston’s harbour. Competitors from Europe, the United States, South America and New Zealand are expected - some 25 teams in all!

| KYC Cruisers
Once again John and Karen Kitney will be organizing events around the 12th annual Picton Jazz Festival Cruise (2019), scheduled for the weekend of August 16, 17 and 18.
We are planning to organize a group dinner for Friday night (August 16) and then plan to attend the 8:00 pm Regent Theatre Concert featuring June Bunnett and Maqueque (a 6-woman Cuban rhythm jazz phenom). A limited number of tickets have been pre-purchased for KYC ($42 each) and can be claimed by calling Greg at the club office to have these put on your club account. Additional tickets can also be purchased on-line at https://www.theregenttheatre.org (Select “What’s On” – “Events Calendar” – “Stage” and bear in mind that the good seats are selling quickly – additional on-line charges will apply).
Details for opting into the Friday dinner and any other weekend activities (such as the Saturday night performance of “Every Brilliant Thing” by the Festival Players) will follow as they become available. | 29er Sailing Program - Sam Harris
As you may or may not know I’m fundraising to not only purchase a 29er, but also to bring the 29er sailing program back to KYC! I have found a boat to purchase from former 29er and KYC racer. Currently the fundraising is on go fund me https://www.gofundme.com/vwvy3-set-sam-asail, to reach our goal with this small timeline, we need help expanding to new fundraising markets, the KYC members! I think a big selling point is, we only need 225 more people to donate 20$ and we will have reached our goal of sailing a 29er and bringing an amazing program back to KYC. Thank you!

Keelboat racing has started! 13 hearty crews have hit the chilly waters in the first few races with good breezes thus far. Our new Sailing Manager Fraser Smith is providing race management services with our volunteer crews. Please introduce yourself, if you get the chance. Results have been posted on the bulletin board. Online results coming soon...
Pigeon Island, our 1st long distance of the season is on Saturday, May 25. See details in the Sailors Handbook.

There are still some Race Committee duty lottery slots available, mostly in July and August. Please sign up soon; you will assigned duty slots at the end of the month. The duty schedule is available online at "Sailing / Race Committee Duties". Email your requests for duty to the Race Office at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Last year, many racers found raceqs.com to be entertaining & instructive. It's a way to record your GPS race track during the race and then replay with the tracks from other competitors after the race. iPhone or Android apps are available to do the tracking and the website provides nice viewing, with a variety of visualisation options. It highlights what you and others did right (and sometimes wrong) out there on the race course. Try it out! The more boats that participate the better. We'll start showing the action on screen near the bar after racing...
