Live Music Returns To KYC!

Each and every Wednesday from 5:30-8, KYC will feature one of Kingston's many talented singer/songwriters. To kick off our Summer Concert Series, KYC welcomes to the best and only dockside patio in Kingson - Kevin Head and Head Over Heals! To complement the evening, Chef Neil and his team are bringing back a Club favorite Rib Nite! Please call for reservations. The beachside patio will also be available for table service.

Parking

Just a friendly reminder that our parking lot is available for members to use only while visiting the Club. Please be sure you are displaying a 2020 sticker or you will be ticketed and or towed.

Reciprocal Club Guests and Mooring Needs

If you wet moor a boat at KYC, please let the Club Attendants know when you are leaving your slip for a few days so that they can put a visitor in your spot while you are away. This much needed income from visitors supports the Club.

Instructional Sailing - Its Back!

Covid compliant Learn To Sail programs will start next week at KYC. At last! Please cheer our adult and junior learners on when you see them launching their Opti or a 420 or when you see them passing by the T-dock in Jessie. They are the future of our sport and our amazing Club. They make us so proud as they represent KYC! We have a few spots remaining in our Adult Learn To Sail program - starting next week. Contact Sailing Manager Jake Adair.

Keelboat Racing Update

The Sailing Committee recently considered & confirmed the return to regular racing, starting next Tues Aug 4, for the remainder of the season. This means regular Tuesday & Thursday evening racing. Races will be started from the Orange Peel with staff (Ben/Jake) and volunteer Race Committees. It means full crews, provided they are in a social bubble and/or masked/buffed as needed. Competitors may choose to race (on a per series basis) using either their FS (spinnaker) or NFS (no spinnaker) PHRF rating. Please notify the Race Office (race@kingstonyachtclub.com) of your intentions.

Also, due to the success of and continued interest in less formal racing, in addition to our regular racing, we will be running a third course and start (first is for PHRF fleets, second is for Shark fleet) for a "casual racing" fleet. Their course will be displayed on the bottom line of the course board and their fleet signal flag number will be 4. They will have a 10 minute starting window for this new fleet after the other fleet starts. PHRF 1, PHRF 2 and Shark fleet signal flags and starting sequence remain unchanged.

An abridged version of the Sailors Handbook for 2020 with SI details for August through October racing will be available online in the near future.

Reminders:

Planned weekend events for the remainder of the season include:
   Sat Aug 22: Harbour Race
   Sat Sep 12: Carruthers Series
   Sat Sep 26: Chase Race
   Oct 4, 11, 18, 25: Frostbite Series (on Sundays)

There is an online Crew Bank available on the SAILING / KEELBOAT RACING page of the KYC website, for those seeking a crew or boat to race on.

We will be assigning volunteer Race Committee duty for the remainder of the season. If you cannot make your assigned duty, please arrange a swap with someone else and notify the Race Office.

See you next week on the race course...

Other Program News

The Community club is experiencing steadily increasing usage of their Sharks & C&C Jessie by members and is readying Shark Samantha for use by members in club racing. There are also future plans to add some Community Club dinghies.

The recent Easter Seals Pageant was a great success! 15-18 boats participated, including keelboats, coastal skiff, optimist, Laser, and powerboats. Over $4,700 esd raised for a worthwhile charity.

Dinghy sailing on Monday evenings has started.

As a result of COVID-19, the regattas that KYC has planned to host for 2020 have all been canceled. Work is beginning on promoting KYC as a host for regattas next year. We will likely have regattas for Sharks, skiffs, & IOM, and perhaps for foiling and coastal rowing boats.

A new KYC Trophies Committee is being created. It will be responsible for overall management of trophies, for keelboat racing, LTS and KYC club-level awards. This includes responsibility for the physical assets and the online Virtual Trophy Room.

Anyone wishing to volunteer to build a box (with lots of slots) to hold our racing signal flags should contact the Race Office for details. We need 2 such boxes, one for the Orange Peel and one for the Sailing Locker.
